Fast and modern rail link from KL to the East Coast? On the cards. According to The Sun, such a project is in the pipeline – a double-track line will that will link the capital city to Mentakab, Kuantan, Kuala Terengganu, Kota Baru and Tumpat on the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia.

According to the free daily, Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) CEO Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah said SPAD and the East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC) had launched a ‘market sensing’ exercise to gauge market interest and seek views for the East Coast Rail Line (ECRL).

“Both SPAD and ECERDC are in the process of analysing different types of business, technical models and procurement strategies and alternatives for the implementation of the ECRL project. The joint market study via a Request for Information (RFI) is designed as a consultation exercise to seek industry opinion and collate market feedback,” Mohd Azharuddin said in a statement.

He added that the RFI is open to companies and consortia who are interested in participating in the areas of ECRL railway design, funding, construction, operations and maintenance across the supply chain. “The deadline for submission for the RFI exercise is May 15 before 12pm,” he said.

It took too long time for this double track to happen…. If it’s not monopoly by KTM, private companies already build high speed train for consumer for years already….

    • Not so easy as u think. DT means building a second network in parallel to existing one and this oso means civil & construction works, building bridges and such, land acquisition from often hostile & profit grabbing landowners. These, on top of loss making by KTM, makes it not able to layout the DT in one go, but have to do it phase by phase.
Project management is not so simple as tell pipu to do it and pipu will so as told willingly w/o question or objections.

      • It’s a new line. You have to do more research, your knowledge is very limited. Chinese owned kuantan port and they will build the rail line as part of their one belt one road initiative.
