Mercedes-Benz is set to unveil its upcoming GLC Coupe at the 2016 New York International Auto Show (NYIAS), and to kick things off, the carmaker has released this teaser video of the sporty crossover ahead of its March 23 debut.
Essentially a GLC with a sloping roof and “coupe” profile, the BMW X4-rival is seen getting all rowdy in the video, slipping and sliding all over the place to demonstrate the crossover’s ‘agility’ and ‘dynamic’ handling. You also get to hear a lovely grunt from the engine, possibly a sign of another imminent AMG model (GLC 43 Coupe anyone?)
As for the looks, the GLC Coupe was first previewed in concept form during the 2015 Shanghai Motor Show. Since then, spyshots of various prototypes reveal that the production car’s overall shape will keep close to that of the concept, save for a few alterations.
The GLC Coupe seen in the teaser video still sports some camo at the front and rear. However, based on our previous set of spyshots of the crossover, the camo applied here doesn’t really offer much to mask the GLC Coupe’s facade.
The new model follows the same path as the larger GLE Coupe, which itself is a “coupe” version of the GLE. Certain design elements appear to be borrowed by the GLC Coupe, according to our spyshots, including the subtle spoiler, rear screen with a curved top, tail lamps linked by a trim strip and badge positioning.
Powertrain options will be provided when the GLC Coupe makes its global debut in New York, but expect it to mirror the GLC’s petrol and diesel offerings. What do you think of the GLC Coupe – would you prefer it to a normal GLC?
