The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) announced that 20 car makers in the US have committed to making autonomous emergency braking (AEB) a standard feature on all new cars by September 2022.
The list of car makers, said to cover “more than 99% of the US market,” include Audi, BMW, Fiat-Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia, Maserati, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Porsche, Subaru, Tesla, Toyota, Volkswagen and Volvo.
In essence, AEB systems help prevent or mitigate collisions by autonomously applying the brakes for a driver when needed. Using a vehicle’s sensors (radar, camera, laser), AEB can detect an impending crash, warn the driver of it, and apply the brakes automatically should the driver fail to react in time.
“It’s an exciting time for vehicle safety. By proactively making emergency braking systems standard equipment on their vehicles, these 20 automakers will help prevent thousands of crashes and save lives,” said US Transportation Secretary, Anthony Foxx.
The NHTSA says that the commitment by the 20 car makers to make AEB systems a standard feature on news cars speeds up the process three years faster than what could have been achieved through formal regulations. During that time, the IIHS estimates that the new safety system rollout will prevent up to 28,000 crashes and 12,000 injuries.

Do already but Malaysian dun want such thing, Malaysian only know 0.1x/km n T. Hahaha
If this is mandatory here, it will signal an end to Ah Bengs’ tailgating culture.
in malaysia still only ABS and 2 front airbags as standard in 2022.
No, until 2040
The situation here would get worse with pedestrians crossing wherever they want knowing that they wont be hit!!!
Malaysian prefer kereta kosong until 2040
In 2022 Perodua wouldn’t even have heard of ESC
