Previous speculations hinted that the Skoda Snowman is the brand’s new SUV. Today, the brand has pulled the wraps off the actual vehicle and it’s a snow groomer with plug-in hybrid technology. According to Skoda, the vehicle is part of its 2025 corporate growth strategy as it enters into a new business segment.
Outside, the Snowman measures 9,130 mm with the snowplough and snowblower attached, and 2,500 mm wide without tracks (5,260 mm with the snowplough). It sports visual lines to give off a sense of extreme wideness, while sharp lines surround sculpturally carved-out surfaces. Most of the exterior details pay homage to traditional Czech crystal glass art.
As stated, the Snowman is a plug-in hybrid. When heading downhill, the drive recuperates energy, therefore feeding the lithium-ion battery. In total the Snowman produces 400 PS and 650 Nm of torque and has a top speed of 20 km/h. Apparently, it can also hike up gradients of up to 100%, while its claimed fuel efficiency of 14 litres per hour.
Following its debut today, on April 1, the Skoda Snowman is expected to be launched in Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and other important parts of Europe by December 2016. Prices for the Skoda Snowman starts at 280,000 euros (RM1.2 million).
