The long-awaited Tesla Model 3, the latest addition to the company’s product line, has finally been unveiled. The livestream, which has just ended, took place in California, while Tesla is now taking pre-orders for the company’s newest electric vehicle.

Details are scarce at the moment, however, what can be told is that this electric vehicle is catered to the masses, with a price tag that starts at US$35,000 (RM136,600). While no performance figures have been provided yet, it is understood that the Model 3 will go from 0-100 km/h in under six seconds.

Apart from that, the Model 3 is said to be both lower and sleeker and about 20% smaller that the Model S. Additionally, it will be equipped with Autopilot features as standard, including autonomous steering, lane changing, braking and parking (including the Summon remote parking feature); it’s also expected to achieve five-star safety ratings in every testing category.

Moreover, the Model 3 will be able to sit five passengers “comfortably” – the new interior sits front occupants further towards the front, thanks to dashboard and firewall pushed as far forward as possible. Also standard is a glass roof, up top. As for travel range, Tesla promises that it will be able to deliver at least 346 km on a single charge.

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla revealed that a total of 115,000 pre-orders have so far been placed for the Model 3 in the last 24 hours. That said, Tesla noted that deliveries of the Model 3 will not begin until end 2017. Meanwhile, stay tuned as we get more updates of the most affordable Tesla model yet.

      • EV infrastructure in ASEAN (not just MY) is still in infancy, not so easy to get a quick charging station near work/home/kampung. So doing EV car here just for niche market doesnt make business sense.

Most affordable to the world but not to Malaysians. this is the same US price as a C300. The C300 in Malaysia is RM310k.

So how do you tell RM310k is affordable?

C300 in Malaysia is CKD. This car is CBU. Expect it to sell at about Rm500k

Rm500k is cheap? Maybe to Bijan it is cheap.
