VIDEO: Jaguar F-Type SVR roars through NYC tunnel

It’s not Michelle Rodriguez pushing the Jaguar F-Type SVR to its top speed this time. In a new video, the performance coupe is filmed roaring through New York City’s Park Avenue Tunnel and according to the brand, it’s part of a “sound test.”

As a refresher, the SVR sports a 5.0 litre supercharged V8 engine that deals a total of 567 hp and 700 Nm of torque – and a lot of sound too. Providing that roar is a new lightweight titanium (saves 16 kg) and Iconel exhaust system that reduces back-pressure.

With Iconel, the thickness of the exhaust tube wall is halved to just 0.6 mm. Combined with the titanium active valves in the rear silencers, the F-Type SVR is capable of producing a more distinctive and harder-edged exhaust note from its four tailpipes.

In further detail, the Park Avenue tunnel goes through seven blocks and is 422 metres long. For the stunt, the brand installed a series of lights which change colour – from white to Jaguar red in tandem with its increasing acceleration.

Developed by Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations division, the SVR comes in coupe and convertible form. The coupe hits 0-100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds and onwards to a top speed of 321 km/h. The convertible on the other hand, will do a top speed of 314 km/h.

The coupe is priced at £110,000 (RM605,150), which the convertible goes for £115,485 (RM635,324). Customer deliveries for the fastest production Jaguar ever, is expected to begin soon, by the middle of 2016.
