We’ve finally captured live local photos of the new Mercedes-Benz A 250 Motorsport Edition, the raciest version of the standard facelifted W176 A-Class. This “fake A 45” gets several exterior and interior additions and “petrol green” highlights (ring a bell?), all for RM18,000 more than the A 250 Sport, bumping the price up to RM256,888 on-the-road without insurance.

The Motorsport Edition distinguishes itself from the standard A 250 Sport through the massive A 45-style rear wing and the 19-inch AMG multispoke alloy wheels. The latter are identical to the ones fitted to the A 45 – albeit in gloss black instead of a matte finish on the pukka AMG – and a size larger than the five-spoke items on the Sport.

Rounding off the changes is the viridescent hue (instead of the Sport’s red) applied to the front spoiler, wheel flanges, rear wing and rear diffuser. The theme continues inside with green accents on the striping of the black leather/Dynamica microfibre seats, seat belts and topstitching on the doors, seats, steering wheel and leather-covered dashboard – the latter is not available on the A 250 Sport.

Otherwise, the Motorsport Edition is identical to the Sport, fitted with LED High Performance headlights, a diamond radiator grille with chrome pins and an AMG Line bodykit. Inside, you’ll find the base Audio 20 CD media system, an eight-inch Media Display, a reverse camera and an Active Park Assist system.

It’s the same story under the bonnet, with the Motorsport Edition sharing the same 2.0 litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine as the Sport, delivering 211 hp and 350 Nm of torque. Fitted with the updated seven-speed 7G-DCT (dual clutch transmission), it sprints from zero to 100 km/h in just 6.4 seconds now (formerly 6.6 seconds), and has a top speed of 240 km/h. The AMG-tuned sports suspension is also present.

Only limited units available for sale – Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has not specified how many – so you’d better be quick to get your hands on one. Available body colours include the Cirrus White seen here, Cosmos Black, Polar Silver and Mountain Grey.
