Lexus IS facelift teased, 2016 Beijing Auto Show debut

Lexus-IS-Facelift-Teaser

Lexus has announced that it will be bringing a redesigned Lexus IS to the 2016 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition happening next week, and has released this teaser image to go along with it. The third-gen IS surfaced three years ago.

“The upcoming new model will bring exciting breakthroughs based on the Lexus signature L-finesse design philosophy. The bold evolution of design with greatly enhanced visual impact will absolutely ignite people’s desire to put their hands on the steering wheel,” the company says.

From the image, which we have brightened, it’s clear that there will be no major change to Lexus’ signature spindle grille that dominates the faces of its cars. Also present is the compact sedan’s trademark daytime running light strip that’s independent of the main headlamp housing.

The headlamps have a new design comprising a main beam and three smaller ones clustered at the edge, not unlike the Lexus LC flagship. The bumper shape should be fresh too, seeing that there’s a big cutout that meets the DRLs high up in the face.

We’ll see in a few days time how more bold can the IS – already the compact premium sedan with the sharpest design – look, and if there are other changes that will improve the driving experience. The Lexus IS is available in Malaysia as a 200t (2.0 turbo) and 300h (hybrid), priced from RM297,800.

Japanese and Korean car makers can never settle on a particular design. While their fans may think this is exciting it actually reduces their design history to that of following trends rather than setting them and creating a respectable legacy.

Frankly i think most manufacturers have much more or less settled on some legacy design themes. Alfa, Audi, MAserati, Merc, BMW, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Toyota and especially Lexus with its spindle grille.

Im not sure about those Asian examples. They’ll likely settle with a theme for 1-2 generations then they’ll move on to other concepts. The Europeans have been largely consistent for decades. Even when they veer off course they tend to return to their origins.

Facelift 100 times also useless. Nobody will pay for this overpriced junk unless the get free donation. Been on sale for so many years yet still can’t even see a single IS on KL roads.
