Mazda MX-5 RF ‘coming soon’ to Malaysia – dealer

MX-5 RF coming soon

Posted by Mazda Malaysia on Wednesday, 27 April 2016

The Mazda MX-5 RF is ‘coming soon’ to Malaysia, according to the ‘Mazda Malaysia’ Facebook page. The page isn’t an official Bermaz-run page, but is managed by Mazda dealer Thrive Glory.

‘Soon’ can mean next month or next year, and we don’t know how soon, but sometime in 2017 would be our guess. That’s because the MX-5 RF only recently made its debut at the 2016 New York show in March, and major markets are yet receive the new Miata variant. Once available, there shouldn’t be any issues blocking the RF, as the regular soft-top MX-5 is already sold by Bermaz.

Essentially, the hardtop version of the current ND MX-5, the RF – for Retractable Fastback, combines ‘retractable hardtop’ and ‘fastback styling’ – blends the nice silhouette of a hardtop and the same level of open-air comfort and freedom afforded by the soft-top version, Mazda says.

The rear roof features side sections that slope down gently toward the rear, while also tucking in at the sides to create a perfect teardrop shape for the cabin. The flowing roofline along the A-pillars, roof sides and rear roof, which are painted in body colour, combine with the straight body line that runs from the low bonnet through to the rear deck, realising an elegant fastback silhouette.

While the overhead roof panels and back window glass are stowed out of sight, the rear roof stays in position when the top is down. This differs from any other hardtop model on sale. No sacrifice of boot volume compared to the soft-top at 130 litres.

No change under the skin, which means petrol SkyActiv-G engines in 1.5 and 2.0 litre sizes and six-speed transmissions, manual and auto. Read our review of the Mazda MX-5.

Coming soonis one thing but at what price? No point come here at Rm300k.

Btw, where is Najib’s promise to reduce car prices by 30%? How to bersyukur when car prices are so high?

Wonder why they dont bring the 1.5 manual to malaysia ? Because it will only cost 130k after tax. And FYI, Both MX5 2.0 and CX3 2.0 are built in the same factory in japan, same engine, same category, but when reach msia, cx 3 is 140k, mx5 220k. Clearly bermaz is doing something we dont know here..

The soft top mx5 has been a flop in malaysia. They can continue the trend by pricing this on par with a 4 series.
