Mercedes-Benz GLC250 Exclusive in Malaysia, RM326k

Mercedes-Benz GLC250 Exclusive Line Malaysia 1

The Mercedes-Benz GLC 250 Exclusive Line is now on sale in Malaysia, going for RM325,888. That’s RM3,000 less than the GLC 250 AMG Line launched earlier (RM328,888), and a whole lot more affordable than the limited-run GLC 250 Edition 1, which went for RM360,888.

Currently, the Exclusive Line is the only variant available to new customers, until the CKD version arrives later. That’s not a negative thing, because this model is fairly attractive, both in terms of looks and specs.

For starters, this being an Exclusive Line model means it wears the GLC’s less aggressive “standard” look, instead of the AMG Line variant’s sportier bodykit. The softer look pairs well with the rest of the SUV, more so with the set of 20-inch five-spoke wheels (same size as the AMG Line’s multi-spoke items).

Elsewhere, the full-LED Intelligent Light System is also fitted, as are a panoramic sunroof, keyless entry and start, Active Parking Assist and Surround-view Camera. However, the Exclusive Line gets standard ventilated front brake discs, instead of perforated items on the AMG Line model. The Night Package (blacked-out mirrors and bumper inserts) is also specified.

The range of equipment is identical to the GLC 250 AMG Line inside. The standard fare of Audio 20, Garmin Map Pilot, Burmester Surround Sound System and three-zone automatic climate control are all fitted. The Exclusive Line adds on leather-covered dashboard and door cards (previously only on the Edition 1), and piano black centre console trim (instead of black ash wood).

Under the hood is the same 2.0 litre turbocharged engine with 211 hp and 350 Nm of torque, enough for a 0-100 km/h time of 7.3 seconds through a 4Matic all-wheel drive system. Merc’s latest 9G-Tronic transmission is also featured here. For a closer look at the Mercedes-Benz GLC 250, read our full review of the SUV, or check out its full specification on CarBase.my. This or x3? Definitely this! Interior alone is a selling point… The rest is just a bonus!

Considering that I’m now driving a W205 C300 and am in the market for either a compact SUV (like the GLC) or a midsize sedan (W213 E-class, to be exact), the GLC’s offerings (both the previous AMG line and current Exclusive variant has been somewhat disappointing. The lack of COMAND Online and the touchpad was already a letdown, but not making the full Driving Assistance Package plus option available was an even bigger letdown (not really a problem for the C-class, where CPA+ is enough, but for an SUV or a midsized sedan, it should be available as an option if not standard)..

All in all, the GLC’s a pretty nice car, but unfortunately, the variant available in the Malaysian market has been relatively hamstrung. Hopefully the CKD may bring an AMG line option back, along with a 300 option, but I’m under no illusions that an option for DAP+ will appear anytime soon.

Nope, the AMG Line variant is no longer available for new customers.

Perhaps when the CKD variants appear in June (I asked a salesman at a Hap Seng Star showroom, he said June would be the month the W213 E and the CKD GLC appear), the AMG Line trim will make its return.

This is actually much value for money than the other competitors in its line such as the X3 or the Audi Q5. This has a fully equipped interior with an additional 2 panoramic sunroof for the front and back passengers. The power given is much powerful. But just a minor setback as compared to Audi Q5 and Porsche. Both of their handling are much better as compared to the GLC. In terms, of fun driving, i would prefer an Audi Q5 or a Porsche rather than GLC . But if you are a buyer of comfort cars, I can plainly tell you that GLC is the best for its given price range as Mercedes are much know for their comfort.

I’d say it’s not really fully equipped in the interior – it doesn’t have the touchpad (found in all C-classes) and the COMAND Online system (as found in the C250 and C300).

IMO the ash wood trim found in the previous AMG Line variant was also much nicer. It’s a shame that in Malaysia, you don’t get to choose options and are stuck with what comes equipped from the factory.
