Naza Kia Malaysia has launched the 2016 Kia Sportage in Malaysia. The five-seater SUV – which premiered in Frankfurt last September – made its official debut in the country earlier this morning alongside the new Kia Sorento.
Two front-wheel drive variants of the fourth-generation QL will be sold here. These are a high-spec GT Line version – previewed in a gallery post yesterday and seen here again – and a base KX Line model.
Both are powered by the solitary engine choice that’s available for our market, a 2.0 litre Nu MPI four-cylinder petrol unit, and this is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. Output numbers from the D-CVVT twin-cam NA mill are 155 PS at 6,200 rpm and 192 Nm at 4,000 rpm.
Dimension-wise, the new car is similar in size to the outgoing third-gen SL – at 4,480 mm, it’s marginally longer by 40 mm, but the 1,855 mm width and 1,635 mm height are identical to that of the old car.
The wheelbase is however 30 mm longer at 2,670 mm, with a slight shift in proportions (20 mm longer front overhang, 10 mm shorter rear overhang) that the automaker says adds a more raked look to the vehicle, which is certainly flowier than its predecessor. Boot space is 466 litres, going up to 1,455 litres with the second-row 60:40 split seats folded.
Standard kit on both variants include auto headlights, steering audio controls, drive mode select (Eco, Normal and Sport), rear fog lamps, a shark fin-style radio antenna, rear AC vents, as well as an eight-speaker JBL infotainment system with USB/aux connectivity and a rear view camera.
Also common to both Sportage models is safety equipment, and the list includes six airbags (dual front, side and curtain), vehicle stability management (which integrates control of the ESC and the power steering into its workings), hill-start assist control, Isofix mount points (outer rear seats) and a tyre pressure monitoring system, among other things.
The 2.0 KX Line is equipped with halogen projector headlamps with bulbed DRLs and regular fog lamps, and the interior features fabric seats, a standard-shaped, three-spoke polyurethane steering wheel, manual air-conditioning and manual seat adjustment.
It also has a keyed ignition and a 3.5-inch mono LCD instrument Supervision display in the instrument cluster, and rides on 17-inch alloys wrapped with 225/60 series tyres.
The 2.0 GT Line, as you’d expect, adds on a host of kit. Exterior-wise, the GT Line pack is easily distinguishable by “ice cube” LED fog lights housed inside large gloss black inserts in the front bumper and variant unique 19-inch alloys, which are shod with 245/45 profile tyres. The GT also gets HID projector headlamps (with auto levelling), circular LED DRLs and LED rear combination lamps.
Its tiger-nose radiator grille is finished in high-gloss black, and satin chrome adorns body garnish parts such as the front aero blade, skid plate, door side sills, tailgate, window lining and outer door handle trim (primarily shiny chrome on the KX). The variant is also identifiable by its side repeaters, which are integrated into the wing mirrors (on the KX, mounted on the fender).
Inside, the GT is differentiated by leather seats, a D-cut leather steering with GT Line badging and a leather gear knob. There’s also an automatic dual-zone air-conditioning, push-start ignition, aluminium sports pedals, door scuff plates with chrome inserts and a 4.2-inch TFT colour LCD Supervision display.
The variant also has eight-way powered front seats, front parking sensors, paddle shifters and comes equipped with solar glass for its windscreen and front side windows.
Finally, pricing. The new Sportage – which is available in Mercury Blue, Fiery Red, Snow White Pearl and Mineral Silver – is priced at RM121,888 for the 2.0 KX Line and RM141,888 for the 2.0 GT Line. The SUV comes with a five-year, unlimited mileage warranty.

Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Hahahaha… harga syok sendiri. Perasan brand bagus lettew.. mmg sukar la nak jual. Nasib ko la KIA.
With that sort of awful design, it can compete with Nissan Juke for being the most frog-faced car on our roads
I knew I wasn’t alone being perplexed by its styling. My vote for most-hideous SUV on our roads. Even the chinese SUVs look better.
How to sell this car when Nissan X-Trail, Mazda CX5 are all around the same price?
Buy Kia Sportage today at RM141k, next year sell, to get RM70k also you will be lucky.
Buy Nissan or Mazda at Rm125k, next year sell RM100k also no problem.
When time to top up loan, that is when you will cry like a baby.
“Kura-kura yg makin cantik tp masih kurang IQ”
OMG…that why their sales become worsen than before…bye Kia
srsly , no turbo engine at all , no diesel variant also. Looks like HR-V or CX-3 a better design
eight-speaker JBL infotainment system…good2
Typo on the ‘Gallery’ line there Anthony. Should be 2.0* not 2.9 :p
Haha, yes, absolutely. Bad finger work, that. Corrected earlier.
Anthony, you meant (GALLERY: Kia Sportage 2.0 GT Line) not 2.9
Such a waste in the choice of engines. Wait! Theres only 1. Wheres the 1.6 turbo? Isnt the GT line about sportier looks complimented with better performance? Naza Kia, when will you learn?
Price RM141K absolutely a better buy than similarly priced rebadged old Accord.
Can you beat perdana that are longer than F10 BMW 5 Series?
This kia is good car. But if perdana is lenih kurang with this kia, i choose perdana instead. Damn long
What is the point of dam long? Interior space is the same
I hv a feeling this car looks alot better in the flesh rather than the pictures…
Godness me, if u have a budget of around 150k to buy a new car, there are way too many options… Must be a real headache… Bt good headache that is… Not so long ago, it used to be 2 or 3 choices only…
yes it does looks good in flesh..seen a lot but not in malaysia..seriously better in flesh
No cruise control, no sunroof, no electronic parking brake, no GPS navigation. Obviously these are available in Sportages outside Malaysia.
What on Earth are these Naza clowns thinking?
They’re learning from UMW… except that they still don’t realize that Korean cars are not on-par with Japanese and European cars yet..
Of course they are not on par with japanese and european cars, KIA is better. Kia is at 2nd place after porche in 2015 quality study by JD power.
Finally, someone who know facts. But sadly the KIA by Naza is a whole new story.
No power boot too
All these ah beng kits can be installed on ah beng shop. It’s rather sad many Malaysians like you can never see the good safety spec of it.
You can install all ah beng kits you like, but you only have one life. So appreciate it.
You are the reason why Myvi and Vios are still selling like hot cakes
Price starting from only RM75k in most other countries but thanks to Proton Malaysians have to pay an extra RM50k to get this beauty. Thank you Proton for making cars so affordable in Malaysia.
Thailand civic top spec RM139k salah proton juga? Sudahlah. Rakyat sudah bijak. Outside malaysia car cheap. But petrol how much? Insurance how much?
Other tax how much?
You go SG buy perodua axia see how much.
Hidup Proton. Proton will not close shop u know. Never. In ur dream la see proton close hahahahjajajaj.
Rm1.5 billion lalalallalala
Well it is cheaper than its rivals that’s for sure. Only thing missing is the cruise control and navigation to complete the list. Plus I don’t know why people are comparing this with the HRV and Maxda CX3. C’mon people this model goes head on with the CRV and CX5.
Agree… this should be compared with CRV and CX5. But there is one that cannot be compared to anything….. … .. Toyota Rush.
It can’t even keep its standard against the likes of HRV in terms of kit available, let alone the bigger ones like CX-5.
I’m pissed at the fact that the Sportage is so full of potential and yet Naza spoiled everything with the intention of ripping Malaysians off.
RM122k with single-zone manual aircond with no cruise control? Just get the CX-5 GL. You’re better off with that.
Ah beng kits can be installed at ah beng shop all you want. Look at the safety. Your life, your loved one lifes are not cheap. The safety specs are good, this should be the standard and benchmark. Give credits where its due.
You are the reason why Myvi and Vios are selling like hot cakes, which also translates to more (dumb) people die on the road
KIA is really solely depending on the physical design. They think users are too stupid to know about engines, performance and electronic. Itu NAZA melayu punya company boleh tutup kedai la kalau jual ini KIA.
Again….no more moonroof. What a BIG disappointment. Same like the new Hyundai Tucson. Very disappointing
Anthony: the KX model comes only in fabric seats
Yes, it does. I thought I typed fabric, haha. Corrected. Thanks for the spot.
I thought Kia/Hyundai going to close shop in Malaysia. It become lesser and lesser on our road. Better stick to Japanese brand if u don’t want headache. No more Kimchi car for me.
should be 9x xxx at max
I’ll pay 110k for the KX. Want to sell?
Mazda CX3 is 100 times better than this 1990s dashboard looking design car in every aspects! Save yourself guys!
boring interior
RM20k extra just for accesories and no engine difference? No way
No Black color and no panoramic roof, what happen KIA Malaysia, looks like you short changing us Malaysian, pay so much and the few luxuries which make it worth to have them has been removed …..
Is the GT line having AWD or 2wd ?
rm141k for GT line or rm158k for bigger brother sorento but with 2.2crdi…yummy.
High spec GT Line look nice. Nowadays all EUROPEAN Look. Its a trending already. Price wise we got a choice, but if we calculate the difference in terms of installment, i would rather go for the higher spec. The Korean spent billions for their RnD, and most of their prototype became reality. Must get the feel of a test drive than will comment. Must be fair judgement…..
Korean makes are getting more and more overpriced
Smart ah bengs wait 3 years buy 2nd hand, genius ah bengs wait 5 years buy as scrap metal sell to recycle center
No gps for GT Line. Great disappointment. Thanks for this decisive factor. Will go for CX5 high spec.
shit interior ever . mehhhhhhhhhhhh
That price is not doing any favor to this car.
Subaru Forester & Mazda CX-5 offers very good value proposition in the RM120K range and there’s the excellent Nissan X-Trail in the RM140K range.
Why would anyone consider Kia in this group? Should have priced like Honda HR-V in order to make real noice in the market. RM100k – RM120k.
Bro, Basic Spec Subaru Forester & Mazda CX-5 price OTR with Insurance should be RM130k++. Almost RM10k different from the similar spec Sportage Kx at RM121,888 OTR with insurance.
The upcoming zero sale club members…say no to AP King..
Take a look at CX9 laa…the trend is towards a clean front and u r still mounting so many lamps in front, for wat? for driving in cave or wat?
The CEO of KIA Malaysia should fire their Marketing Head, as they really don’t what the market need.
Consider a 12-18 month old Tucson.
Should be able to get one for around RM60k in the used car merket
ugly face and cheap-looking interior. the back is nice though..
Naza Kia failed to realize the competitive market trend. I like the GT variant BUT many things are missing. They should have placed 1.6 or 1.8 Turbo engine instead of 2.0
Other missing stuff such as Cruise control, sun roof, GPS and smaller 4.2″ infotainment are disappointing. They should have introduced the Australian spec here!
