SEAT will be introducing a new compact crossover in 2017, according to president Luca de Meo. The upcoming car will sit below the SEAT Ateca in the Spanish brand’s lineup.
“Thanks to the Ateca and its little brother, the crossover we’re going to launch next year, SEAT will be present in the segments showing the highest growth in the market,” de Meo said. “With the Ateca, the company is launching a product offensive that will expand and strengthen the model lineup.”
No details have been disclosed regarding SEAT’s upcoming compact crossover, however, reports have indicated that the Ateca’s little brother could be based on the next-gen Ibiza. Word is that the impending compact crossover could be offered exclusively with front-wheel drive.
Elsewhere, the company is also expecting the new compact SUV to be a hot-seller – as seen by the response received by the Ateca. Labelled as an “internet sensation,” 7.2 million people from Germany, Spain, the UK, France and Italy have shown interest in the Ateca.
Furthermore, over 300,000 configurations have been made of the model, online. The Ateca, the brand’s first SUV, will be available across SEAT’s dealership network from the beginning of June onwards.
