Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia recalls Triton for Takata airbag replacement – 2006 to 2014, 35k units involved

Triton-Takata-Recall

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) has announced a recall for the Triton pick-up truck manufactured from 2006 to 2014. This is for the replacement of the Takata-made driver airbag inflator, which may release metal fragments when deployed. 35,115 units are affected, including the Triton 3.2L, Triton AT and MT 2.5L and Triton VGT 2.5L.

“Safety is our top priority thus MMM is taking this initiative to ensure customer’s safety and regrets the inconvenience caused to all customers. This effort is to enable the replacement of the driver airbag inflator with substitute inflators,” said Yang Won-Chul, CEO of MMM.

Separately, MMM will also issue a recall for defective turn light switches for selected models. The exercise is necessary to fix the related terminals to prevent further oxidisation, which can cause lamps to not function. MMM will issue notification letters to affected owners and costs will be borne by the company.

MMM is also reminding owners of the Lancer (manufactured from September 2004 to April 2006) to check if their sedan is affected by the passenger airbag inflator recall announced earlier this year.

Owners can check their recall status by keying in the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) at this link.

Proton cannot do recalls even if it wants to. They are losing 3 million per day. If they do recalls, gone lah. Bankrupt!
