Although the Sepang Drag Battle series will not be taking place this year, fans of the motorsport will be glad to know that another drag racing event will be held soon. And this one doesn’t involve a drive down to Sepang, as it will be held right here in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. Specifically, Dataran Merdeka.

In a report by News Straits Times, KL Supercar Drag Race chairman Nazir Hussin Akhtar Hussin said he expects more than 10,000 visitors to attend the competition, which will be held separately across four series, from July 15 to December 4, 2016.

“This is the first time that a race is going to be held at the centre of Kuala Lumpur. We expect more than 1,600 local and foreign supercar owners to participate. Thus, organising it in the heart of the city would attract tourists from around the globe,” he said.

“The first will be from July 15 to July 17; the second from September 16 to 18; third from November 4 to 6, and the fourth from December 2 until 4,” he explained, adding that prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will be officiating this event during the second series.

Communications and Multimedia minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak claimed the event can help improve the talents of youngsters in motorsports, and promote Malaysia as an exciting destination, as reported by The Sun Daily. “It will also strengthen relations between members of the various communities who turn out to watch the race,” he added.

The video above just shows the tak apa attitude. Where’s the barrier? Why there were 2 people stand just meters away from the racing path? don’t they learn about drag mishap at Putrajaya previously?

our ministers smua sibuk menjilat.. sampai tak sempat berfikir.. and tak boleh fikir, lebih baik buat racing kat kawasan yg kurang congested mcm putrajaya, which also have a better scenery compare to KL.. preparation racing saja nanti sudah banyak road closure nanT..

  • Drag race on public road with barely any safety wall.
Good luck not crashing your car into that sultan abdul samad building.
I’m sure they all rich enough to pay for the damages.

  • Looks exciting. Ford Mustangs vs GTRs and so on.
But later, tire burnout marks throughout KL roads can be visibly seen everywhere. Hahahaha.
