As Zlatan Ibrahimovic bids goodbye to the Swedish national football team, Volvo has released a new video ad starring the prolific striker and the V90 wagon. Titled ‘Epilogue’, the 4 minutes 1 second long spot is a touching farewell tribute that is well worth a watch.
At Euro 2016, Sweden failed to make it out of Group E, with the team’s last game against Belgium ending in a one-nil loss. The video starts at the end of said game, with Zlatan looking dejected following his team’s exit, as well as his retirement from the Blågult (Blue-Yellow) after 15 years of service.
From there, the man with his own verb in the Swedish dictionary brings his family home in a Volvo V90, highlighting some of the car’s features like the Sensus infotainment system. We also get lots of lovely driving shots of the car as well.
All the while, Zlatan retraces the highs and lows of his career, eventually making a pit stop at where it began in the tough Malmö neighbourhood of Rosengård. I won’t spoil what comes next but it is certainly a tearjerker, complete with music by Academy Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer.
“Making this film was of course emotional, but the time has come for me to hang up my shirt and hand over to the next generation. For me it is all about looking forward, not back. A new journey is starting – both for me and for Volvo,” said Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
“We are very proud that we have been given this opportunity to share this personal moment in Zlatan’s life and career. He is a very strong ambassador for Sweden around the world and he has shown that you can continue to be proud of your values and your origins,” said Anders Gustafsson, senior vice president Europe, Middle East and Africa at Volvo Car Group.

Very unique in a way of using a sad situation to market a product.
Ibrahimovic should join Proton and advertise for us. After all, our Ministers already said, Proton is at par or even better than Volvo and BMW.
Since this is the case, better he work for Proton. Our Protons will wipe out Volvo and BMWs.
