Proton Perdana not affected by Takata airbag recall

Proton_Perdana_Accord_ 003

Proton has stated that its Accord-based Perdana, previously produced for Government usage, is not affected by the ongoing Takata airbag recall in the country.

The previous Perdana was a rebadged version of the eighth-generation Accord. However, production of said Perdana only started towards the end of 2013. The recall programme issued by Honda Malaysia lists the 2003-2011 model year Accord as being affected, and thus, is not applicable to the previous Perdana.

The same can be said of the current 2016 Perdana, which was recently launched not too long ago. According to Proton, the national carmaker has conducted all the necessary crash testing to ensure that there are no issues with the vehicle’s airbags.

We would like to remind all vehicles owners to please check if your vehicle is among those affected by the Takata airbag recall. We’ve prepared a post for you to find out all you need to know about recall programmes issued by carmakers here.

Where can Proton do the necessary crash testing? They don’t even have money to pay their staff. Crash testing cost a lot of money. Proton is bleeding RM4 million per day.

Last month they only sold about 4000 cars. According to Proton CEO, they only make RM500 per car sold. So, with just about RM2 million in revenue, how to pay 12,000 workers?

I doubt Proton has done the necessary crash tests. Main tembak only and bluff the rakyat. They don’t even have money to pay their own staff also, they want to conduct expensive tests.

The other day, like Kunci Kunta…I peeked into a Protong showroom…..oh no…the Hondana is ABSENT.
Politely,I asked why there is no display unit.
Salesman said” Bang…ada sikit production hiccup…….keta akan sampai lepas Raya.”
Oh no…..despite the pomp and VVIP launching it….P1 has some nagging issues,QC …I reckon.
P1 has lots of plans after the rm 2.75 B Bailout and Buyout…..but VERY POOR EXECUTION.
P1 do not have Takata related problems, but seems to be stuck, unlike Honda and Toyota which has thousands of Takata airbag recalls BUT still make Billions of Dollars.

Err, there’s a 2016 Perdana ready for test drive at my local showroom. And it’s just a small town.

But then, a national D-segmenter isn’t supposed to be volume pusher anyway.

So my question is does this Accord based Perdana use Takata airbags? Anyone can confirm? If yes then why is it not part of the recall? If no then do they use Autoliv like the rest of the Proton cars?

Urgent notice: CNN reported that in the US drivers are advised to stop driving cars affected by the Takata airbag recall. But in Malaysia the car companies relax only and say: wait, no stock of replacement airbags??!! Disgusting attitude.

Liars. When did they conducted the crash testing? There’s no result for Proton Perdana mentioned in Asean NCAP.

Their staff already knocked some of the Pondana while shipping from Honda Pegoh plant to the trailer. The airbag deploy, and no shrapnel exploded when the airbag deployed. So it is in their belief it is tested and prove ok.

it’s because the inflators are still brand new, the chemical composition is not affected by the humid & heat build up.

notice USA they only recall airbags in car models that are of certain age? you hardly hear them recall new cars back in 2010. but year 2016, you start hearing them recalling cars made in 2010, why? because those inflators are now defects after 6 years exposed to humid & heat.

what Honda USA does, is recall those now defect inflators, replace them with either same new stock defective inflators, or same new stock defective inflators with desiccant that can last longer than non-dessicated inflators.

and in USA they are allowed to continue to use non-dessicated inflators until end of 2018.

if everything remains same as previous Honda Accord, it’s possible they used the new Dessicated Inflators instead of the non-Dessicated ones, however this will only prolong the stability of the inflators, once the Dessicant is full, the chemical mixture will start to become unstable and will require replacement just like current recalled Honda airbag inflators.

It’s not a permanent solution and one day the Perdana Airbag will need to be recalled.

We are assuming Perdana is also using Takata unlike other Proton models, since if Perdana aren’t using Takata, Proton would have said so to keep buyers a peace of mind.
