2016 Renault Koleos open for booking – RM172,800

Print

Official Renault distributor TC Euro Cars has announced that the 2016 Renault Koleos is now open for booking. The new flagship Gallic SUV is expected to go on sale next month as a European alternative to the likes of the Honda CR-V and Mazda CX-5.

Pricing for the Koleos is RM172,800 on-the-road without insurance, inclusive of a five-year, unlimited-mileage manufacturer’s warranty. Bear in mind, however, that TC Euro Cars tags the figure as introductory, so the price could go up within a few months.

The Koleos is based on the same Renault-Nissan Common Modular Family (CMF-CD) platform as the Nissan X-Trail; unlike the latter, however, the Renault doesn’t get a seven-seat option. Not that you can tell that the Koleos and X-Trail are related just by looking at them, as the Koleos has a completely different look inside and out.

Equipment listed in the announcement includes full-LED headlights with distinctive C-shaped daytime running lights, 18-inch alloy wheels, an R-Link 2 infotainment system with an 8.7-inch portrait-format touchscreen, a seven-inch TFT LCD virtual instrument display, ambient lighting, blind spot warning and six airbags.

Under the bonnet, the Koleos in this SCe 170 variant shares the same drivetrain as the X-Trail 2.5L, so a 2.5 litre QR25DE naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine sends 171 PS and 226 Nm through a Xtronic continuously variable transmission (CVT). Unlike the bigger-engined, all-wheel drive X-Trail, the Koleos is front-wheel drive only.

    RM142,800 for the 2.0L 2WD and RM165,800 for the 2.5L 4WD (on-the-road, with insurance).

This sits 10k above the X-Trail 2.5 it is related to, but drops the AWD (you can argue that AWD isn’t exactly necessary in Malaysia…).

So… why would you get this over the X-Trail? Now, the Renault has a significantly nicer interior, with a much bigger screen and everything. Exterior is nicer too. Better safety too. But SCs are limited (not all Nissan SC will do Renault, though TC may be wise to extend that number, at least for models that are closely related to Nissan models anyway. I suppose a Nissan mechanic should have no trouble working on the Koleos, at least for many things), and the car only has 5 seats as opposed to 7. So it is less practical.

I guess the pricing isn’t terrible, but… I doubt sales will be good. You could argue that CKD doesn’t make sense though, because sales won’t be good anyway.

How about Renault 5 years vs Nissan 3 years warranty? Renault is a nice car to drive, interior looks more prestige, and exterior looks better than X-Trail too especially the taillights OMG.

Yup, pretty much covers the points. Renault has a small presence here in MY, CKDs will not make much sense. I’m thinking CBUs also does not make much sense.

While they might sit on Nissan underpinnings, latest Renaults looks great & have a slightly more Premium feel compared to the Nissans. TC should give the latest Renault Megane Sedan and Talisman some chance to appear on the Malaysian market..

  • Anyone knows if TC Euro will launch the talisman? Seriously in love with it

    • Tabouleh. Later some pipus says talisman used for occult purposes. Black magic.

    • Renault confirmed that so far Talisman will not be made right-hand drive. No chance for Malaysia.
However check out the new Renault Megane Sedan introduced a few weeks ago, which a smaller Talisman to replace the Fluence. It is launched in Australia end of 2016, not announced in Malaysia yet but I guess we’ll see it here sometime ….

This should be the final pricing. If they hike the price any further it will not sell.

  • Why only bring in 2WD ?? TC should bring in 4WD to compliment Nissan Xtrail…..

    • Nobody will use this vehicle in the jungle …. 4WD really not necessary

  • In line with the renaissance of Renault around the world … their latest models (Captur / Kadjar / Talisman / Megane) are gorgeous with great value. TC Euro service in Malaysia is excellent. Look forward to the launch ….
