At this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, Aston Martin revealed the one-off Vantage GT12 Roadster for a very special customer who commissioned Gaydon’s bespoke personalisation and customisation service – Q by Aston Martin – to build it. Now, it appears that AM may be planning to offer the soft-top model to more customers, according to these spyshots.
In these photos taken at the Nurburgring, we see a prototype that certainly appears to be a Vantage GT12 Roadster, complete with identical wheels, bumpers, side skirts, rear diffuser and boot lip spoiler. The only thing different here is the four-vent hood, which is lifted straight off of the V12 Vantage Roadster.
With the Goodwood debutant already in the hands of AM’s customer, we could assume that the carmaker is looking to make a limited run of the Vantage GT12 Roadster in the future, and are performing the necessary tests before doing so. Considering there is already a 100-unit only Vantage GT12 Coupe, a Roadster version doesn’t seem that far-fetched.
Should such a model come into fruition, it will likely be powered by the same 600 PS, 6.0-litre normally aspirated V12 engine mated to a seven-speed Sportshift III paddle-shift transmission, and feature a unique suspension set-up to ensure it handles just as well as its hardtop sibling. Also, it may upset the owner of the Vantage GT12 Roadster.
However, all this is purely speculation at this time, and only time will tell if AM will actually produce a limited series of the Vantage GT12 Roadster.
