Ferrari GTC4Lusso T – the four-seater goes V8 turbo

Ferrari will be giving the GTC4Lusso T its world premiere in Paris next week. The turbocharged variant of the facelifted and renamed FF follows on the normally-aspirated GTC4Lusso, which made its debut in Geneva back in March.

The company has released some details and specifications of the forced-induction Lusso ahead of its global reveal. No dimensional changes, the blown version of the four-seater shooting brake being identical to the NA model at 4,922 mm long, 1,980 mm wide and 1,383 mm tall.

A 3.9 litre V8 turbo unit from the F154 engine family sits in place of the 6.3 litre F140 V12 unit in the NA GTC4Lusso, and in terms of output is placed in between that of the Tipo F154 BB and CB units seen on the California T and 488 GTB respectively.

On the GTC4Lusso, the unit delivers 601 hp (or 610 cheval vapeur) at 7,500 rpm and 760 Nm from 3,000 to 5,250 rpm. Comparatively, the F140 V12 has 680 hp at 8,000 rpm and 697 Nm at 5,750 rpm, more power but less torque.

Performance figures for the turbo include a 0-100 km/h time of 3.5 seconds and a top speed over 320 km/h. If you’re into the Top Trumps thing, then that coming off the 6.3 litre V12 still presents the better card to hold (0-100 km/h in 3.4 seconds, 335 km/h top speed).

Numbers, of course, don’t tell the whole story. The automaker says that the V8 turbo’s characteristics suit day-to-day driving in urban contexts, with rapid pick-up from low revs courtesy of versatile, modular torque delivery.

Like that seen on its other turbo models, the mill features a pair of twin-scroll turbochargers with Variable Boost Management software, which adjusts torque delivery to suit the gear selected – with variable torque curves on call between 3rd and 7th gear, the automaker says that longitudinal acceleration is consistent through the ratios, increasing smoothly with engine speed.

Aside from the powertrain, the GTC4Lusso T differs from its NA sibling by featuring a rear-wheel drive layout (the NA car is equipped with a 4RM-S four-wheel drive system), but four-wheel steering – which is integrated with Side Slip Control (SSC3) – is on. The drivetrain isn’t mentioned in the initial tech specs list, but should be the familiar Getrag seven-speed F1 DCT unit seen in other applications.

No photos of the turbo variant’s interior as yet, but there should be little in the way of change from the NA version, so expect to see the new infotainment system with a 10.25-inch screen as well as a new, smaller steering wheel in the cabin, which features a Dual Cockpit architecture.

Under the real sunlight, silver or grey colours will not stand out.

    Nice panoramic sunroof.
