2017 Ducati 939 SuperSport to be shown at Intermot

With the Intermot show in Cologne, Germany, due to open today, Ducati has released a teaser video of the 2017 Ducati 939 SuperSport. Slated as a sportsbike a rider can live with on a daily basis, the 939 Supersport is supposed to be “fun and accessible”.

So, a 939 Testastretta engine in a half-fairing then? Certainly, with Ducati’s mid-size range now including the Monster 821, the 939 Hyperstrada and 959 Panigale, there is room for a more road-oriented sportsbike that isn’t as focused as the Panigale, or as naked as the Monster.

The 939 SuperSport would perhaps bring back the sports-touring segment for Ducati – with the emphasis on “sports” – somewhat neglected by the Borgo Panigale firm over the last decade or so. A less hard-edged sportbike, capable of being used on a daily basis without a back-breaking riding position sounds good.

Other news for Intermot includes the reveal of a new Volcano Grey colour scheme for the 2017 Multistrada 1200 S. Changes have also been made to the Multistrada for the coming, with a new airbox and engine mapping which boosts the Testastretta DVT engine’s mid-range.

New Euro 4-compliant engines for the Monster 821 and Diavel will also make their appearance at the show. The Monster 821 also gets new clothes for 2017, with a Dust Grey scheme that matches the red frame and wheels.

For Ducati’s superbikes, the 1299 Panigale and 1299 Panigale S, 2017 will see the introduction of the latest EVO version of Ducati’s Traction Control (DTC) and Wheelie Control (DWC). First seen on the 1299 Panigale S Anniversario, the new riding aids feature a new algorithm that promises quick and precise engagement.
