Toyota recalls 340k new Prius for parking brake issue

PRIUS_13

Toyota Motor Corp said yesterday it was recalling around 340,000 units of its latest Prius hybrid globally to fix a parking brake issue, according to Reuters.

The recall covers the fourth-generation Prius produced between August 2015 and October 2016, and affects around 210,000 units in Japan and 94,000 units in North America, with the balance accounted for by Europe, Australia and other regions. No accidents have been reported in Japan in connection with the issue, a Toyota spokeswoman said. She declined to comment on whether any accidents had occurred overseas.

Last month, Toyota Motor North America announced a recall of approximately 7,600 units of the latest Prius in the US to fix a leaking gas airbag. It was the first recall in the US for the popular hybrid car.

1st recall for Prius in north america after 20 years? That’s amazingly wow. 340k units sold in 1 year time, only one model? No wonder Toyota is no. one car manufacturer in the world.

toyota got fined US1.3 billion in 2014 for not disclosing the brake issue by lying to regulators and people were killed in several accidents linked to it.

they wont dare make the same mistake again.

    • Until you realise that Toyota sells 10 million vehicles annually. So, 340k Prius is only around 4% of the anual sales for Toyota. Unfortunately, in Malaysia UMW is driving the Toyota brand into the ground.

Shameful as they simply make cars and quickly sell it instead of properly checking everything.. This is what happen when you mass produce something when there is no proper S.O.P otherwise for sure they have carefully check everything before sells.. Its like Microsoft company, sell things first, any problems or issues can be fixed later..

It is different. You can easily patch the software when updating. Fixing cars are not that easy

This is one of the advantages of Malaysia being the last batch to receive the latest model.Other countries have to face these kind of reliable problem for being the earlier lab rat.So we get the upgraded batch after manufacturers fix it.Btw saw few this Prius as taxi in Singapore.Hidiously ugly.Unless u want a hybrid, close one eye and just drive it.Double check your brake function pls.
