Continuing the success of the Yamaha X-Max 250 in Europe, the 2017 Yamaha X-Max 300 has just been announced by its European arm. From the original T-Max, going back over 15 years, Yamaha’s X-Max 300 takes over the quarter-litre scooter mantle from the X-Max 250.

Drawing on the DNA of the T-Max 530 cc super scooter, the X-Max 300 features Blue Core 292 cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine with a claimed power output of 27.6 hp at 7,250 rpm and 29 Nm of torque at 5,750 rpm. A V-belt driven automatic gearbox gets the power to the ground, in traditional scooter style.

Starting is electric, and the engine is fed by EFI with electronic ignition. Rolling on a 15-inch wheel in front, and 14-inch wheel at the rear, the X-Max 300 carries 120/70 and 140/70 tyres front and rear, respectively.

New for 2017 is LED lighting front and rear, with a Smart Key keyless ignition. ABS is standard on the 267 mm diameter front hydraulic brake disc, and the rear brake is a 245 mm diameter assembly. Traction control (TCS) also makes an appearance for 2017, enhancing ride safety.

There is under-seat storage for the X-Max 300, capable of swallowing two full-face helmets and assorted riding gear. A side pocket on the dashboard has more storage space and conceals a USB charging port. An adjustable windscreen completes rider accommodations.

Instruments are a two-clock analogue affair, with a central LCD panel displaying the fuel and temperature gauges, along with an odometer, fuel consumption readout and the such. The 13-litre fuel tank sits under the rider’s feet, and the X-Max 300 weighs in at 179 kg.

No word on pricing of the 2017 Yamaha X-Max 300 as yet, but the 2016 X-Max 250 retails from 4,499 pounds sterling (RM23,129). There are three colour options available – Quasar Bronze, Milky White and Matt Grey – and availability will be March 2017.

    • Didn’t quite like the Kawa, and it doesn’t help knowing that it is a fundamentally a Korean product.

I think this is a market for 200cc-300cc scooter, for keeping up with the flow on highways, the 150cc is just lacking.

The problem with this is the price. If this XMAX comes, it will surely breach the RM30k mark.

    love this bike..perfect..

i think 300cc is the best option to go if u are commuting let say from Bangsar to Putrajaya to Ampang like distance..enough power, fuel economy and it has ‘just the right’ size..400cc – 750cc Scooter are just to bulky and thirsty..unless for long distance..then its ok..

Kawa J300 i think its too bulky..more like 400cc size..
Honda Nss300 is the best in town right now..ive ride on it..and its awesome!..semua abt this Honda scooter mmg terbaik!

i hope Yamaha Hong Leong will introduce this model to our market..NMAX is a superb scoot, NVX155 (coming) and plus this XMax300..complete..

300 cc scooters need full B license. Those license holders prefer >500 cc bikes. Thus, market is very limited. Even bmw has yet to bring in their 300 bike. Of course, price is another factor.

Don’t worry, it’ll be introduced in January-February 2017 for the 250 cc version.

Is this bike ever going to be sold in Malaysia? Modenas Elegan 250 recently launched was priced down so much definitely going to make Yamaha think twice before importing them, any how if the are coming as CBUs i will still opt for this bike, the Taiwanese origin of ME250 has its downside…

    Xmax Indonesia priced @ 55,000,000 Rupiah = RM17K OTR
    ME250 Malaysia Priced @ 14.5K OTR

I wonder how much the CBU of Xmax will be taxed upon?

MOT Malaysia, JPS and MITI whosoever should encourage Mid Sized Scooters on Malaysian roads, they are not “rempit” suited, very good for commuting to work plus adventure and good fuel savers
