In conjunction with the Malaysian MotoGP, Shark and Furygan, French purveyors of motorcycle helmets and riding gear, respectively, held a “MiniGP riding experience” to launch the 2017 Shark Spartan helmet and Furygan’s range of riding gear in Malaysia.

The launch event was graced by current Moto2 world champion Johann Zarco from France, and Englishman Samuel Lowes, who is third in the Moto2 championship this year. Organised by Shark and Furygan Malaysian distributor Winmaster, dealers, local racers and members of the media were also in attendance for a day of racing miniGP bikes.

As part of the event, attendees raced Zarco around the Speedway PLUS go-kart circuit in a series of five-lap heats, with the top two finishers in each heat coming together for final race. As expected, Zarco handily ran away with the win, while Lowes sat out the race on medical advice.

Shown at the riding experience was the 2017 Shark Spartan helmet, which replaces the outgoing Speed-R model. Fully ECE-compliant, the Spartan helmet features improved aerodynamics and a light weight of only 1,290 grammes. The carbon-fibre helmet comes in three colours (red, white and black), each priced at RM1,750 in Malaysia.

Also on display was a range of riding jackets and gloves from Furygan. Made from a mix of textile and leather materials, the lightweight jackets and gloves come with deformable D30 armour that is CE-certified. Prices start from RM590 for the jackets.
