Volkswagen Beetle Dune 1.8 TSI spotted on oto.my, priced at RM200k – launching in Malaysia soon?

beetle-dune-oto-my

The current Volkswagen Beetle has been in Malaysia for a while now, and the Beetle Dune is set for our shores soon, too, following limited edition variants such as the Beetle Bug and the Beetle Club editions. The listing’s price of RM200,000 lands it right in between the now-discontinued RM179,888 Beetle 1.4 TSI and RM219,888 Beetle 2.0 TSI models, making it a new range-topping model for the Beetle lineup in Malaysia.

The Beetle Dune pictured here will be a slightly more comprehensive rework compared to the Bug and the Club editions, which were cosmetically enhanced 1.2 TSI models.

According to the oto.my listing, it will use a 170 PS 1.8 litre turbocharged petrol engine – essentially a tweaked version of the powerplant in the B7 Passat – compared to the 1.2 litre, 1.4 litre and 2.0 litre TSI petrol engines which are enlisted for the Dune in overseas markets.

The Beetle Dune sports a ground clearance that’s been increased by 10 mm, along with redesigned bumpers, black plastic mouldings, silver skid plates, a two-tone rear spoiler, large five twin-spoke alloy wheels and side stripes with the Dune script. Inside, there are sports seats, plus contrast stitching on the seats, steering wheel, handbrake lever and other parts matched with the body colour.

So, what do you think of the Volkswagen Beetle Dune coming to Malaysia – the raised ride height will be just the thing to brave our potholes and occasional floods with, no?

    • Ask VGM no need to shut down production in Malaysia and import only la. Even before dieselgate, VW already known for DISCOUNT BRAND. After DSG fiasco, you got stocks tried to let go with huge discount for 2 years also no people buy. VPCM gotta choose: “NO DISCOUNT” or “NO SALES”

Dune or whatever U want to call it. The fact that VW uses a tweaked version of the powerplant in the B7 Passat means they are giving this Dune an “old” engine.

For 200 grand, it’s already priced itself out of most Dune lover. More like Dude or Dud.

Even though is old engine, but simply advance than those Japs crap engine by 20years. See, those crap start following the “turbo” trend after 15years VW use, and 20years after Volvo. Vvti and VTEC are craving performance and fuel consumption

Alex FYI, the primary use of Variable Valve Timing U are referring to is to control the flow of the intake & exhaust gases into & out of the combustion chamber.

Effectively, it means optimizing fuels. There is nothing wrong with this type of VVT in Natural Aspirated engine.

Alfa Romeo was the first manufacturer to use a VVT system in production cars in the 1980 Alfa Romeo Spider 2000 & not the Japanese. Only in 1989, Honda released the VTEC system.

The beetle of yesteryear had character and a lovable quality about it and most importantly, it was highly affordable.

This in comparison is just the opposite.

Excuse me, one centimetre only ?

I think it may be ‘kosong’ spec due to weak USD.

  • Increased ground clearence by 10mm or 10cm?
10mm seems like wont have any significant difference compared to normal model

In international market it is increased by 15mm.. so malaysia apparently is 10mm. 10mm is enough to make it rugged yet still keep its distinct shape. 100mm higher would be more than C-segment SUV territory!

10mm ain’t much if you’re going into a flooded road and I still don’t get why VGM is still churning out Beetles when it’s not really selling well here.
