VIDEO: MINI two-wheeling around the Nurburgring

Fans of on-circuit, onboard videos will most likely have seen videos of cars and bikes pushing the performance envelope at circuits like the Nurburgring Nordschleife, however here’s one with a twist: A car going around the circuit on just two wheels.

Driven by Chinese stunt driver Han Yue, the vehicle of choice for this stunt was a MINI Countryman, left fairly standard but with some modifications for safety; a roll cage was added, along with a welded differential, and solid rubber front tyres with reinforced sidewalls.

There were some hiccups during the two-wheeled lap attempt, with vibrations forcing him to drive slower than initially planned, eventually completing the lap at an average of 28 km/h. “It was the back tire. At the start of the lap, I got a very strong vibration that has never happened before.

“It only happened over 20 km/h (12.4 mph), but it got worse when I drove faster. So, this lap was a lot slower than I liked, and that makes it much more difficult. My shoulder was hurting by 6 km, with 15 km still to go.”

Open roads and closed circuits hold great allure for Mick Chan. Driving heaven to him is exercising a playful chassis on twisty paths; prizes ergonomics and involvement over gadgetry. Spent three years at a motoring newspaper and short stint with a magazine prior to joining this website.

I believe that is not a MINI Countryman.
That is acutally a MINI Cooper S R56.
    Correct me if I’m wrong.
