A recall has been issued by Austrian manufacturer KTM for three of its Adventure series machines – the 1190 Adventure, 1190 Adventure R and 1290 Super Adventure, to resolve an issue with the ABS system. The recall addresses an issue with the ABS modulator wiring harness.
According to the recall notice, under some circumstances, the wiring harness may fray and come into contact with the ABS modulator, which lets the electrical system be grounded. Should this occur, it is possible for the brake line to become “live”, and conduct a current.
This may lead to the brake line overheating and melting, causing brake system failure. Owners of KTM Adventure-series bikes are asked to return their motorcycles to an authorised KTM dealer for repair, and the recall affects all 1190 Adventure, 1190 Adventure R and 1290 Super Adventure bikes up to model year 2016.
We got in touch with KTM Malaysia, and it was confirmed by its spokeperson that some Malaysian units of the 1190, 1190 Adventure R and 1290 Super Adventure are affected by the recall, which only concerns KTM Adventure bikes made in early 2016. To date, 11 units of the 1290 Super Adventure have been sold in Malaysia since August 2016.
