Honda Civic, Toyota Sienta and Nissan Navara all obtain full five-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating

honda-civic-asean-ncap

The New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) has released its latest round of results for the Nissan Navara, Toyota Sienta and Honda Civic.

Starting with the Navara pick-up truck, which now obtains a five-star rating after going through a second round of testing, this time with three airbags fitted (dual front, driver’s knee). The result is an adult occupant protection (AOP) test score of 14.44 points out of a maximum possible 16 points, an improvement from the 12.34 points obtained in March.

Child occupant protection (COP) also sees an improvement, with a 61% compliance instead of 37% before. As per ASEAN NCAP’s requirements, only models that come equipped with Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and a seatbelt reminder system (SBR) can receive a five-star safety rating. As such, the sole variant without ESC (2.5 S MT) will get four stars instead.

Moving on, the Honda Civic scored 14.74 points out of a maximum possible 16 points in AOP, along with an 86% compliance in COP, good for a five-star safety rating for the C-segment model. The model tested here is sourced from Thailand and does not come with a front passenger SBR (and only two airbags), hence a four-star rating is applied instead.

Thankfully, the Malaysian-spec Civic is equipped with the passenger SBR, as well as six airbags (dual front, side and curtain) from the base 1.8 S variants, right up to the 1.5 TC-P. Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Isofix mounts, ABS with EBD, brake assist and hill start assist are standard kit as well.

Finally, the Toyota Sienta also receives a five-star rating, scoring 15.26 points in AOP, and a 74% compliance in COP. However, like the Navara, the five-star safety rating is only given to variants equipped with ESC, while variants without it get four stars instead.

The good news is, all Malaysian-spec variants of the Sienta – 1.5V and 1.5G – come with the stability control system, along with other standard safety features such as traction control, three airbags (dual front and driver’s knee) and Isofix child seat anchors.

Wow, so safe. Our famous Ertiga for COP got 2 stars lah. Only 2 stars! What this means is, if accident, parents live but children…habis lah.

How to sell the Ertiga like this?

those version of Susuki Ertiga don’t come with Isofix n top tether of cuz score cannot be gud. Isofix is better than seat-belt restraint for child seat.

Hello Tan Chong, you advertised your Navara as 5 star NCAP certified. In fact, the 5 stars NCAP is only for Navara with 3 airbags and 4 stars NCAP for the 2 airbags. All Navara in Malaysia are 2 airbags, hence, all Navara in Malaysia should be 4 stars. Don’t try to cheat consumer, ok?

This is very normal in Malaysia. We got no consumer laws. So, all car manufacturers here syiok sendiri and advertise 5 star. But they don’t know, the cars scored 5 stars because they had 10 airbags, lane sensing, VSC and many others.

Malaysia got no advertising laws lah.

If you guys remember, Bezza got 15.38 for AOP and 85% for COP. How is that Bezza score higher than Civic?

May due to different momentum or inertia on both cars during collision. Heavier civic may cause severe injury to the doll due to larger momentum or inertia compared to light-weight bezza

Kudos to all vehicles that obtained full 5 stars asean ncap safety rating recently.

Now it’s time all local council/town council/city hall/department of transport to also obtain good safety rating by improving all those road signage either blocked by plantation; placement on odd location; signage size too small; non complaint variety size speed bumps; traffic lights amber to red timing too short; haphazard road works and inferior after patchment; potholes; non roadworthy heavy vehicles plying the public roads and lastly disorganized roadblocks by relevant authorities causing unnecessary traffic jams.
