BMW reveal two special edition i8 models for Geneva

For the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, BMW rolled out a special edition of the i8 known as the Protonic Red Edition, which gets its own distinct visual cues. At this year’s iteration of the well-known car show, the German carmaker will expand the exclusive i8 line-up with two new introductions – the Protonic Frozen Black Edition and Protonic Frozen Yellow Edition.

Both will be will be produced in a limited run, and feature a unique exterior BMW Individual paint finish corresponding to their names, along with Frozen Grey metallic accents. They are also fitted with 20-inch BMW W-spoke 470 light-wheel wheels painted in Orbit Grey metallic.

Inside, both Protonic Edition models come with yellow contrast stitching on various surfaces like the seats, centre console, side panels, door cards, floor mats and the lower section of the instrument panel.

An anthracite-coloured headliner, grey seatbelt straps, a different gear selector lever and iDrive Controller, and door sills bearing the “Edition” inscription, provide the finishing touches to the special-edition models.

Beyond the aesthetic enhancements, the i8s retain their plug-in hybrid powertrains, which is made up of a a 1.5 litre BMW TwinPower Turbo three-cylinder petrol engine, an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack.

    1.5 litre, up to 320Nm torque. Not a racing car. But quite a practical car to drive. Looks cool.

    Can we have a compact Z4 size hybrid instead, something like i-4 more practical.
