Honda City facelift teased in India, launch next week – 1.5L i-DTEC turbodiesel with 6MT rated at 25.6 km/l

Honda Cars India has opened order books for the Honda City 2017, which is the facelifted City that was launched in Thailand last month and is now open for booking in Malaysia. The refreshed sedan will be launched there on February 14.

Honda has released a short teaser video of the 2017 City, and a microsite highlighting the main features. The City – which has a premium positioning in India – comes with LED headlamps/daytime running lights/foglamps, 16-inch diamond-cut alloys, LED tail lamps, boot spoiler with LED third brake lights, six airbags, a seven-inch “Digipad” touchscreen head unit with navigation (a different unit from ours) and an electric sunroof in the top ZX grade.

The two powertrains available there are carried over. The 1.5 litre i-VTEC petrol can be had with a five-speed manual gearbox (17.4 km/l) or a CVT automatic (18 km/l) with seven virtual ratios and paddle shifters. There’s also a 1.5 litre i-DTEC diesel engine (100 PS/200 Nm) is mated to a six-speed manual transmission. It’s good for claimed FC of 25.6 km/l.

Like the India-spec City, the Malaysian top-spec City V gets LED headlights and fog lights, two-tone 16-inch alloy wheels, the ducktail spoiler with integrated LED brake lights and LED tail lights. The last two items are not available in Thailand. All models now get VSA and keyless entry with push-button start, while the V receives a multi-angle reverse camera.

With prices of fuel not coming down, this 1.5L i-DTEC turbodiesel looks promising. Just bring it in la. Am sure it will sell well whether it’s manual or CVT.

Can we also get this car so that we can save petrol? Now our petrol is super high despite being oil producing nation.

If gomen really care for the rakyat, they will allow Honda to bring this in. Can help us save money

Even Indian specs have 7 speed paddle shifters.
Malaysian Honda always give the minimum, no shifters. They think Malaysians are dumb. Don’t forget to install temperature gauge and last but not least rear disc brakes for higher spec model.

India used to be way behind us. Now they have the latest motorcycles and cars and they get it way before Bolehland.

  • IF the fuel consumption rating is real, this diesel version Honda City is even more fuel saving than the much smaller and weaker Axia 1.0L

I don’t believe all these numbers! All manufacturers equally practising ‘dieselgate’ method.Usually it just 70% fuel efficiency accurate. When it say 18km/l for petrol, actual figure just about 12-13km/l.
