The next-generation Alpina B5 based on the latest G30 BMW 5 Series has been teased, with the release of this video by the “manufacturer of exclusive automobiles.”
In the video, we get to see a prototype B5 frolicking around in the snow, spending most of its time going sideways both in the day as well as the night. Though entertaining, part one of the teaser doesn’t reveal when the car will make its debut, merely stating “a new BMW Alpina is coming.”
We do get to see some of the styling enhancements Alpina has done on the regular 5 Series to fit its more luxurious role. The front lower apron features a full-width horizontal intake, an Alpina trademark, instead of the three-section M Sport front bumper. In another scene, we get to see the multi-spoke wheels on the car, another aspect of Alpina’s look.
Since BMW has yet to unveil its new, all-paw F90 M5, the B5 is expected to be powered by an uprated version of the 462 hp/650 Nm 4.4 litre TwinPower Turbo V8 from the M550i xDrive. As Alpina is focused on ensuring better refinement with their creations, the engine and accompanying Steptronic Sport eight-speed automatic transmission should be tuned to match as well.
While we only see a sedan in the video, earlier spyshots have shown that a Touring version of the B5 will be offered as well. More details should be revealed when the B5 makes its debut, reportedly during the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.
