VIDEO: 2018 Lexus LC 500 shows feats of amazing

Lexus has released an ad for the 2018 Lexus LC 500 and the “Feats of Amazing” spot touts the performance of the coupe and the engineering work that went into it. They didn’t have to focus on the LC’s striking looks, which speaks for itself. Just look at the thing.

Anyway, a naturally aspirated 5.0 litre V8 engine, a 10-speed Direct Shift transmission and a meticulously crafted interior are described as feats of engineering. These combine with near perfect weight distribution to create a feat of amazing, Lexus says in the ad. The sight of the red LC balancing on its fulcrum reminds us of Mazda USA’s video of the ND MX-5.

The LC 500 is powered by an Atkinson-cycle V8, derived from the GS F and RC F. Fitted with VVT-i and D-4S direct injection, it’s been given forged connecting rods and titanium valves, allowing it to spin up to 7,300 rpm. There’s also a dual intake inlet to improve breathing and engine note, along with a double torsion damper on the crank pulley for reduced noise and vibration.

The result is 471 hp at 7,100 rpm and 540 Nm at 4,800 rpm, enabling the LC 500 to sprint to 100 km/h in under 4.5 seconds. All that power is sent to the rear wheels via a 10-speed automatic – there’s an extra gear to reduce the gap between second and third gears, and a 10th gear for more efficient high-speed cruising at reduced engine speeds.

There’s also a LC 500h hybrid with a 3.5 litre V6 and a Multi Stage Hybrid system. Total system output stands at 354 hp. Launched in Japan in March, the Lexus LC is priced from 13,000,000 yen (RM500,752) in its home market. Coming to Malaysia this year.

Simply B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L. Only the connoisseur will end up buying & appreciating this beauty. The nouveau riche will only get the BMWs, Mercs or Audi.
