Although BMW isn’t ready to unveil the all-new F90 M5 in its entirety just yet, the German carmaker is more than willing to let us ride along in the sports sedan. In this lengthy video, we join BMW works driver Timo Glock and BMW head of development M Automobiles, Dirk Hacker, as they showcase the new M5’s new-found capabilities.
The big focus here is the new M xDrive all-wheel drive system, a major addition in the model’s 33-year history. By default, the system is rear-biased, and drive only goes to the front wheels when it detects the rear tyres require some help.
However, if you feel like you have the driving skills of Glock, you can set the system to only drive the rear wheels. You’ll need to be at attention should you want to relive the classic rear-wheel drive nature of big BMW M sedans, as DSC needs to be switched off in this mode. A rear locking Active M Differential is present to help you pull off Chris Harris-esque drifts.
Aside from the discussions about what’s new with the F90 M5, we also get to hear the bellow of the revised 4.4 litre twin-turbocharged V8 just ahead of the passengers. BMW won’t disclose how much power the motor makes, but expect it to be near what the W213 Mercedes-AMG E63 4Matic+ offers.
As you can tell, Glock is pretty impressed by what he experienced during his time in the new M5, much to the delight of Hacker. Then again, who wouldn’t be?

Urmmm, the video accidentally revealed the M5 interior. The other videos of the M5 had the dash hidden below the touchscreen.
