Five years ago, Lamborghini introduced the world to the Urus, a concept SUV that previewed its second SUV (after the LM002). It may have taken a while, but come December this year, the company from Sant’Agata Bolognese will celebrate the world premiere of the production Urus.
Not only will Lamborghini’s new SUV retain the concept’s name, it will also remain pretty faithful to its design as well. Previous prototype sightings reaffirm the latter, with plenty of aggressive cues inspired by the Aventador that came before it.
As for the technical aspects, a specially-developed 4.0 litre twin-turbo V8 is expected to power the Urus, an engine Lamborghini says has nothing in common with the Volkswagen Group’s version used in the Bentley Continental V8 and Flying Spur V8.
The all-wheel drive powertrain is claimed to include an electric motor with plug-in hybrid capability, with outputs said to be around 583 hp. Underpinning the Urus is VAG’s MLB platform, also used in the latest generation of the Audi Q7.
Lamborghini is touting the Urus as the “first super sport utility vehicle in the world,” so expect some mind-boggling performance figures to be revealed. All will be revealed on December 4, so stay tuned.
