Proton hands over a brand-new Persona, engine and transmission to PDRM for research, training purposes

Proton recently handed over a brand-new Persona to the Strategic Resources and Technology Department (StaRT) at the Selangor police contingent headquarters. The vehicle will be used in training activities held by the department to test its performance and capabilities.

For research and testing purposes, the national carmaker also provided the department with a 1.6 litre DOHC four-cylinder VVT petrol engine as well as a CVT automatic unit. This is aimed at improving PDRM’s knowledge of Proton vehicles, allowing them to have better expertise in how to handle them.

The police have engaged Proton as a vehicle supplier since the company was founded, with around 9,408 Proton vehicles used as either official, patrol or special operations cars. Among the models used include the Saga, Wira, Waja, Perdana, Inspira, Exora and Preve.

“On behalf of Proton, I would like to thank PDRM for giving us (Proton) the opportunity to work together with the police. This effort will hopefully enhance the service provided by PDRM to the citizens of this country, and indirectly, strengthens the relations between the police and Proton,” said Datuk Ahmad Fuaad Kenali, CEO of Proton Holdings Berhad.

better for PDRM to do research for Proton and close down Proton research and department. After all, all they can do is take Iriz wheels and pasang into Persona. And then, they say it cost few hundred million to do so

      Come on guys..
Buka minda sikit. bukan semua polis tugas dia meronda cegah jenayah. Dalam polis pun ada bahagian teknikal/kemahiran. Kan ada Maktab Teknik PDRM kt Muar Johor.

Proton pun bukan sumbang kt PDRM saja. kt Institusi Kemahiran / Universiti lain pun diorg sumbang juga tapi takdela dihebohkan…..

Since police cars are subjected to heavy usage almost everyday, it’s good for them to earn knowledge of vehicles and troubleshoot any potential issues (if any) for Proton vehicles which made up majority of police patrol cars in Malaysia.

Should give pdrm a rear wheel drive car. Pdrm can drift.

  • Strange. Considering the amount of Protons on the road, its really odd that PDRM cannot use some from their impound yard that has confirmed cannot be put back on the road.

Oh, I see. PDRM is not ONLY a Crime buster. They are “also” doing Research for P1 since PDRM have 9408 vehicles under their care.

Maybe PDRM can compile a dossier & hand over all the data collected all these years for P1 to evaluate & come out with a better plan on how to make their cars more durable & cheaper to replace/maintain.

If PDRM can help P1 in R&D, that is a smart move to save $$$ in future & save our tax payer $$$.

  • Somehow it will become a good move also (hopefully). Later the police can make their own super fighting crime car which can tangkap all people with bad driving attitude. Got sensor oh..

As much as Proton & other car manufacturers wants to only produce Auto, it just doest cut it for advance driving like what MT transmission can offer. The CVT is absolutely horrible & incapable for chasing suspects purpose.
