Proton leaves Iran, dissolves its dormant subsidiary

Proton has dissolved Proton Motor Pars (PMP), its indirect, wholly-owned Iranian subsidiary that was set up in August 2011 but has not been active since its incorporation, The Star reports. The announcement of the dissolution – which took place on Monday – was made by DRB-Hicom to Bursa Malaysia.

The company was to have engaged in car assembly or the building of vehicles as well as business of marketing relevant accessories and spare parts in the country, but operations never took off.

In January this year, DRB-Hicom announced that it had no intention of activating the dormant company to carry on business or undertake operations in the future. It added that the dissolution of PMP is part of the streamlining exercise undertaken by the group to close down companies that are dormant or have ceased operations.

The national automaker had previously told the publication that Iran was identified as a core market for long-term business, as it offered sizable potential with substantial future growth.

Nearly a decade ago, it was reported that sales of Proton vehicles in Iran were encouraging – local distributor Zagross Khodro announced that it was selling around 17,000 units annually but had ambitions to shift 100,000 units a year by 2013.

Proton is so shameful. Have showrooms all over the world. But no sales. One good example is Singapore. Keep the showroom open costing millions per year in rental. Then have to pay the abang2 high expat pay.

      For what?

in 2016, they sold a grand total of 1 Proton in Singapore. Untung maybe RM3k. But spend SGD millions to maintain the showroom.

All over the world, same story about their showrooms

Proton in Singapore is handled by Cycle and Carriage. Proton doesn’t have a handling office or HQ there. C&C is responsible for all its own expenses, PnL etc. They decided to purchase one car then that’s it.

  • How come the subsidiary company become dormant while initial report said sales was 17000 and projected will increase to 100k? Should it active right after setup, possibility of success is high. Must be both side dont do anything after setup and just propa saja lebih…

Read my friend. Read. Proton is handled by zagross kodro, as distributor. Owned by Iranian. Proton motor pars is wholly owned by Proton. The plan is – to assemble proton cars in LHD version for Iran and other countries in the region. But that project (assembly plant) never materialised.

they left because they cant compete with French, Korean, Japanese and Chinese companies making tens of thousands of cars there. another failure by DRB miss-managers. what goes around comes around.
