The Hyundai Ioniq Electric is currently on display at the 2017 International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition & Conference (IGEM) being held at the KL Convention Centre, but don’t get too excited just yet – the EV isn’t on sale here, and the example is a left-hand drive unit that has been brought in for field evaluation purposes.
Word on the grapevine is that GreenTech Malaysia, the folks behind the Tesla initiative, has been exploring the possibility of bringing in the Ioniq Electric and offering it through a leasing enterprise in the same vein as the Tesla leasing programme, but no word on how far along things have moved or if the plan will be green-lighted – the presence of the car suggests that there is at least some movement on that front.
First revealed in February last year, the Ioniq Electric is one of three variants available for the car, the others being a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and a hybrid. The last is of course familiar to us, having been launched locally in November last year, initially priced at RM110,828 on-the-road without insurance, and now going for RM114,008 in its HEV Plus form.
Externally, the pure electric version looks very much like its hybrid sibling, with a new nose piece in place of the regular grille and a second access flap on the front fender providing the necessary cues to its electric-only leanings.
Motive force is provided by a 88 kW (117 hp equivalent) electric motor, juiced by an LG-made 28 kWh battery pack, positioned under the rear seats. Performance figures include a 150 km/h top speed and an operating range of 169 km with a full charge, measured under a South Korean test cycle.
As standard, the Ioniq Electric is fitted with projector headlights and LED daytime running lights, 16-inch wheels, a five-inch colour LCD touchscreen infotainment system and seven airbags. Like with the Ioniq Hybrid, the EV model is available in two trim levels, the higher-spec variant being known as the Q.

As u mentioned, alredi displayed. So why need dispaly again? The Iriz ADAS, yes. But its not EV for IGEM.
That renault Zoe next to it is cuter.
Enough with the leasing already la, just remove the taxes for green vehicles and sell it here cheaply. That’s the way to encourage the growth of electric vehicle technology here.
I vely like this idea. I give one like.
Its alredi removed. Hyundai just needs to CKD here like its hybrid sibling.
It’s a six month waiting list here in the UK.
from what i understand , HSDM wont be bring this model so soon due to few factor such as global shortage for ioniq EV , the number of infrastructure (DC fast charging )that encourages(even some of their management people spoken out) and so on ….
however , nissan is more likely to bring in leaf 2018 next year .will see …
i really wonder y some people thinking of bringing in this EV vehicle & not sell to the masses of customers but want to apply leasing conditions. I really wonder how far leasing option goes wit msian customers who are quite smart & go for other options then select leasing.
