September 2017 Malaysia vehicle sales down by 20.8%

The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) has released vehicle sales data for the month of September 2017, and only 40,981 units were delivered during the month. This represents a decrease of 10,739 units or 20.8% from the number of vehicles that were registered in August.

The association said the slump in vehicle sales was due to a short working month in September and a more stringent vetting process in hire purchase loan approvals.

Compared to the same corresponding month in 2016, the sales volume in September 2017 was 7,144 units – or 14.8 % – lower. As for total industry volume (TIV), the year-to-date figure for September is 425,711 units, 1.8% higher than that registered at the same point last year (418,277).

For October, the association is projecting the sales volume to increase again because of a longer working month.

short working months, yes. but most car showrooms are open on Sundays too, some even on Public Holidays. they still can invite customers to come to the showroom, go for a test drive and arrange for financing and everything on the remaining working days. its not like it was cut down from 25 working days to 12 (only 21 days instead). 20% is a lot, more once translated into numbers.

Yup, the last thing the people want to buy is a new car.

Better to use the limited money to buy food and pay college fees.

YTD, Passenger Vehicles still up +3% and Total YTD Sales still up +2%.

Still, in this challenging economy, a modest growth is something.

Other sectors are showing decline in sales, so be happy with +2% growth.

Wow, your “Everybody” is very optimistic don’t U think so?! There are 60 people declared bankrupt everyday in 2013. It is fairly to say about 100 Malaysians are declared bankrupt everyday in 2017.
