There have been news and rumours regarding this vehicle for a long, long time, but now, we finally have a good look at what the Lotus SUV will look like. Patent drawings of the new model have been leaked in China, showing a rather handsome and sporty SUV with a fair bit of Lotus design cues.
The front end bears some resemblance to recent Lotus sports cars, with the customary three-wide air intakes and a round emblem on the nose. If the images – published by Chinese website PCAuto.com.cn – are to be believed, the SUV will have a rather distinctive side profile, with a steeply raked rear window.
Sharp lines flow across the sides, with prominent wheelarch bulges leading to the rear light enclosures. As is common with recent lotus models, two single circular lamps are featured here, joined by a wide frame. Other design flourishes include the central duct on the roof, as well as the fuel filler placement.
That it looks nothing like the Lotus APX concept should come as no surprise, as that is in fact, a design study from over 10 years ago. These new drawings do show a much more modern and sporty interpretation of an SUV/crossover by a specialised sports car maker.
That’s all we know for now. While rumours of it being built on a Volvo or Lynk&Co platform are rife, it needs to be mentioned that this project was started long before Geely came into the picture. Two years ago, Lotus CEO Jean-Marc Gales had already put out a bold claim that the company’s SUV would out-handle the Porsche Macan.
Lack of concrete details aside, what do you think of these leaked patent drawings? Let us know in the comments section below.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
This is Geely written all over. Great job jibs for letting this gem out of our clutches. Another good deal with china. Some say whats wrong doing business with china.
Well doing business that cost something you shouldnt let go. Thats wrong
Those side mirrors from Saga or Persona?
Design it till it looks like F22 so what when the QC and reliability are not there?!
Dont just give assumption …
Lotus > all
Enjin CFE?
Ya. Enjin terbaik di dunia. Sampai kat simpang, enjin mati tiba2. Hahaha.
You mean Ecoboost? Ouch
Its looks agile even just from the picture..
Wow. I like your imagination. Just from drawings alone U already can tell.
The front end is too “Ford”
“Ford” design is ugly
It’s Jaguar style front grill.
There rear, especially the C-pillar, is ugly.
UK bruiser riding on Volvo Drive-E 400HP engine.
Jaguar E-pace front with a ferrari inspired rear. low originality i think.
Outhandle the porsche macan? On tarmac or offroad?
Please don’t jump the gun.
Remember “game changer” betul2x onzz” +
not forgetting BMW of Asia.
Now out’handle Macan ? Plsssss.
Lotus gonna make our lives real difficult
Looks great ! Minimalist, elegant and understated, typical of Lotus designs.
At the very least it confirms the intention to produce the design. Hopefully, it will be a big seller.
Evora cues shd be ditched. Personally think it looks dated, they shd start afresh with a new look.
Jean: Carr, we need to keep up with the times.
Russell: What do u have in mind?
Jean: We need something new, something fresh (looking out in the window at an Evoque that had just pulled in the compound). Yes! That’s it! an SUV!
Russell: Sure but don’t u think it’s not our style to conform? How abt we jazz it up a little just like the Germs? A Crossover SUV! Even the Bulls are reviving their Urus.
Jean: You have 1 month. Longer than that, you’lll answer to the Asian shorties.
Russell: Doh!
And so Russell managed to strike a deal with LR to supply Evoque’s chassis. To sweeten things up, LR decided to throw in the rear bumper.
Russell have always fancied the Ferrari FF and so he stuck an FF’s butt onto the Evoque’s. He suddenly recalled his boss’ keeping up with times remark. Seeing the CH-R was so successful in the US, he opted for it’s rear quarters and again he struck a deal with Toyota.
It was getting late and Russell didn’t want to miss his usual football nights and he sped up his brainstorm. He then Googled for the latest SUV and found the Jaguar F-Pace which it’s bumper. Afraid of infringement, he snipped the Aventador’s brake cooling ducts and stuck onto the F Pace’s bumper sides. Bumper done.
Now, for the eyes, “Let’s have a little more flavor this time, I’ll just merge the Macan’s and California’s headlights and voila! He then grabbed his suitcase and coat and head home!
Wow johnnas, I must say that is a long & interesting story to put an Evoque, Urus, Ferrari FF, CH-R, F-Pace, Aventador, Macan & California into the new Lotus SUV.
According to U, this SUV have many Germans, Italians, British genes/DNA in it. I hope many will read your comment to appreciate the time spent to write this interesting stuffs. Cheers…
Yawn sejuk betul cerita ni
Wow not one mention of colin chapman up till now.
That looks like a FWD layout, as the cabin is far ahead. Not sure how an FWD or FWD based AWD system will match a Macan with its longitudinal engine layout. Not impossible, but doable.
looks cheap
lazy design…i feel like as if someone just finished his spm and make a scribble on a piece of paper.. paultan.. frankly, you are wasting your expensive wall slot…
Show us your talent here kids. Bashers here can bash your drawing until kingdom comes
As a Transport Design student, I personally think it’s not necessary, just revive back the Esprit nameplate, and the world needs a new Elise.
under Geely this could really be a game changer. just like what it done with S90. Volvo.. just keep a lotus, lotus.. KUDOS for make it true after more than a decaded.
