UMW Toyota kickstarts flood relief campaign – free towing and inspection, 25% off on total repair cost

In light of the recent flood that befell Penang, UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has introduced the Flood Assist Service Campaign, which offers towing services, vehicle evaluation and car wash (interior and exterior cleaning) for free. On top of that, a special 25% discount will also be given on the total repair cost.

“Our commitment to serve the community and customers remains at the topmost of our priority. We hope by offering the Toyota Flood Assist Package, it will further ease the burden of our Toyota vehicles owners who were affected by the recent flood. We sincerely hope for the quickest possible recovery and our heartfelt prayers to all flood victims including our customers and their family during these difficult times,” said company president Ravindran Kurusamy.

Also, UMWT mobilised a team of 32 volunteers to the state up north as part of a donation drive. The company will provide dry food, groceries, towels, blankets and other necessities that will benefit flood victims who are currently housed at relief centers.

Two relief centres at Seberang Perai Utara were selected by UMWT and the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) based on the density of affected residents. Over 220 victims at Sekolah Kebangsaan Padang Menora and Sekolah Agama Rakyat Labuh Banting relief centres received the essentials, of which were packed in ration boxes. Ten Toyota vehicles – comprised of the Hilux and Fortuner – were utilised for logistics operation.

UMWT also provided assistance to 20 of its employees in Penang who were affected by the flood. Through the company’s internal support welfare program, the employees were handed cash relief and ration boxes as well. The Flood Assist efforts and the corresponding service campaigns were part of UMWT’s corporate social responsibility (CSR).

“It is heart-warming to see numerous organisations, volunteering groups and NGOs coming together irrespective of creed and religion to help, during the recent food. We also encouraged our staff to join relief efforts to help the flood victims not only to provide essential items to people at the affected areas but also to assist them to get back to their normal life,” added Ravindran.

Customers affected by the flood can visit any UMW Toyota Motor Service Centre or call the Toyota Toll-Free Line at 1-800-8-869682 (1-800-8-TOYOTA). Alternatively, they may also visit the company’s website.

Other car companies, Volkswagen, Mercedes, Mazda, Honda has this campaign much earlier. Only now Toyota is having this campaign. Talk about old, outdated underpowered and expensive.

Don’t you think it’s too late to help. The disaster happened almost 2 weeks ago and most Toyota owners would have sent their vehicles to private workshops.
