According to a Reuters report, BMW is looking for partners to lower the costs of making electrified MINI models in the future.
“We are talking to many OEMs (manufacturers) around the world, not only in China, (about) how to electrify smaller cars. There’s no final conclusion on it,” said Peter Schwarzenbauer, management board member of BMW and MINI.
Aside from financial considerations, there’s also the engineering challenge of fitting batteries into a smaller vehicle package that are capable of delivering sufficient range, he added.
The company presented the MINI Electric Concept at this year’s IAA show in Frankfurt, which it claimed was designed for use in urban areas. A production version has been promised for 2019, which could mark the start of the brand’s transformation to deliver only electric vehicles, Schwarzenbauer noted.
Recently, BMW Group revealed details of its next-generation electric powertrains, which are claimed to deliver up to 700 km of range. The company is projected to sell 100,000 electric vehicles worldwide by 2025, which also includes a number of MINI vehicles.

This is in line with emissions free vehicles only for most major cities in Europe within the next 10 years or so.
So when will Malaysia follow suit? Or such cars are unsuitable here?
Unsuitable here, cuz bashers says batteries wun last our hot humid weather, our pomen skills level cannot servis EVs, condos & highrise lack of charging stations, most importantly lousy RV for EVs.
