Infiniti Q Inspiration Concept revealed ahead of debut

Infiniti has released the first image of its new sedan study ahead of the its debut at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit next week. The Q Inspiration Concept, as it’s called, previews the brand’s new design language, which features clear, concise lines and an elongated silhouette with fastback leanings.

The front end of the show car was previously teased last month via a partial reveal – while the trapezoidal grille remains, it has been reinterpreted in a new way, completely closed save for a row of slits cut into the surface. Also hinted at are slim headlights and vertical air inlets in the front corners.

According to the brand’s executive design director Karim Habib, the idea behind the study is to move beyond traditional sedan architecture by offering an alternative form, something more flowing in appearance and muscular in stance, with an unusually long and balanced cabin.

The Q Inspiration Concept will provide an intimation of what to expect down the line when the eventual replacement for the Q70 executive sedan comes about. The new sedan is also set to use Infiniti’s variable compression engine, which debuted on the QX50 crossover. More on the new Q when its Detroit debut comes about.
