The Mitsubishi Triton Athlete looks set to make its Malaysian debut soon, according to a teaser video posted on Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia’s official Facebook page. Written in the description section are the words: “countdown with us as we unveil our athlete this 17 Jan 2018 @ One Utama Shopping Mall.”
Mechanically, the pick-up truck remains unchanged, retaining a 2.4 litre MIVEC turbodiesel engine that pumps out 181 PS and 430 Nm of torque. It remains to be seen what transmission will be paired with the oil burner, and whether it is available in 2WD or 4WD guises.
The Triton Athlete will likely feature several aesthetic enhancements, as is the case with the similarly-named model launched in Thailand last year. This includes plenty of black-painted components like the 17-inch wheels, side mirror covers, side steps, door handles, honeycomb grille and cladding for the bumpers and fenders. There’s also orange highlights for a bit of contrast, along with matching decals on certain areas.
Inside, expect a continuation of the black and orange colour scheme with black leather upholstery with orange inlays, stitching and ‘Athlete’ embroidery on the seats. You’ll also find orange stitching on the steering wheel, gear knob, door panels, storage box and centre console.
We’re only hours away from the launch of the new Triton model, where full details about will be revealed, so stay tuned.

Basically, this is the successor to the Phantom and Knight. A limited build dressed-up model with unchanged mechanicals at a higher price. Did I miss anything?
