We previously reported that Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) will introduce the facelifted Volkswagen Golf Mk7.5 range in the country very soon. At the time, we were told the range will include the standard Golf, the high-performance Golf GTI and even higher-performance Golf R.
Now, the company has begun teasing the arrival of all three models on its official website, where interested parties can also register their interest. Exact specifications aren’t confirmed yet, but the images on the site do provide some hints (although speculative).
Starting with the standard Golf, a 1.4 litre four-cylinder TSI engine (150 PS and 250 Nm of torque) will continue to be of service (no 1.5L TSI Evo), and is mated to a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission. Other features include adaptive LED headlights (replacing the previous bi-xenon units), Air Care dual-zone Climatronic system, Driver Profile Selection, seven airbags and a rearview camera. In January, we were told the Golf will be available in R-Line trim as well.
Next up, the Golf GTI packs a 2.0 litre TSI, which should serve up 230 PS, or 245 PS if it is the Performance variant. The hot hatch also gets a six-speed DSG automatic, Adaptive Chassis Control system, keyless entry and start, as well as power-adjustable seat(s). Aesthetic items include chrome exhaust tips and Vienna leather interior upholstery.
Lastly, the Golf R. Under the bonnet will be a 2.0 litre TSI that is likely upgraded to make 310 PS, mated to a seven-speed DSG and 4Motion all-wheel drive system. While the image states a 0-100 km/h time of 5.1 seconds, a quick check with Volkswagen’s German site reveals that figure to be for models equipped with a six-speed manual transmission, which we won’t get – a DSG-equipped Golf R does the sprint in 4.6 seconds. The likely scenario is we could be getting a detuned TSI unit like the current Golf R on sale, hence the slower 0-100 km/h time.
Powertrain and performance aside, the Golf R looks to be fitted with 19-inch wheels, paddle shifters, chrome exhaust tips, Discover Pro infotainment system, Park Distance Control, Vienna leather upholstery, Driver Profile Selection and adaptive LED headlights.
Keep in mind that these specifications aren’t confirmed, and are only based on what we see on Volkswagen Malaysia’s website. More information will be revealed when the models are officially launched here.

Wow. Golf R with 6 speed manual transmission? That would make it the most sought after car for performance drivers and racers in Malaysia!
The VW Golf R’s DSG series is the DQ380-381 series, which is a wet clutch DSG for higher performance than the DQ250 wets used for the Golf GTI. Dry clutches can take a maximum of 250Nm of torque for VWs, so all performance variants of VWs get the more reliable wet clutch DSGs.
VW clarified DQ200 capable 280Nm of torque (mean). If do some homework, DQ200 takes 300Nm (max). Therefore you can see Stage-1 no problem.
From clutch forums worldwide:
“The DQ200, is the only VW DSG transmission to make use of a dry clutch assembly. It is also at the centre of a major recall due a quite significant design flaw. This flaw—particularly in regions with high humidity—results in shorted electrical connection within the electronic control unit. This results shuddering, loss of power, and even total loss of drive, and has resulted in Volkswagen voluntarily recalling hundreds of thousands of vehicles. However this fault does not appear in VWs wet clutch assemblies”.
Dear expert. Can you explain why some has traveled 100K kilometer still no breakdown? Even modded
Haha I think this dude never see wet-clutch DSG that cannot shifts gear.
Come here it will be like RM250k.
Better buy A250. Merc is Merc. Merc is still luxury car all over the world.
VW is normal people class car all over the world except in Malaysia where VW makes it seem it is a Rolls Royce with super high prices
Not all Mercedes models are considered luxury cars. It is based on type of Mercedes and type of VWs.
Globally VW Golf GTI and R are perceived the benchmark in performance hatchbacks (global no:1), meaning top of class. The Merc A Class AMG is second in some markets and third in others to the BMW 1 series.
So just because VW makes “normal” range of cars, that does not make the A Class or 1 series greater than the VW Golf on a model by model basis.
Even the current golf R is 300k not 250k
Most Car MAkers are MOVING away from Combusion engine. VW is going the other direction ??
Problem ahead ???
i dont understand this comment. who is?
I didnt know Merc A class or BMW 1 series using engines other then combustion engine? they are using electric now?
Can you please explain, i want to learn.
Volkswagen 3 year free servis is unbeatable!
3 year free service or 45,000km mileage? such a joke
VW’s service intervals are 1 year or 15,000km, whichever earlier. Hence 3 years or 45,000km. Because math.
@Sunshine you are right, maybe it for the “slow” markets. In Germany even DIESEL engines are being phased-out.
I was once “burnt” after purchasing VW. No more VW for me…..
Probably you’d bought a second hand without service record?
Thinking you could save up :)
Dsg ok?
DSG is just the same as DCT, PDK. Its just a name. All have their strength and weaknesses. DCTs by Ford, Hyundai, Honda and BMW also have models with faulty systems. Generally the wet clutch versions are reliable for hot weather countries like Malaysia. In colder countries both the wet and dry are reliable.
Without the aerokit added, Golf car exterior look is just too plain and dated.
dry clutch should be totally phased out.
tiguan 1.4tsi pack with 6 speed wet…
