Proton SUV naming poll a big hit – over 69,000 entries!

Proton’s online poll inviting the public to vote for a name for the SUV has attracted a huge number of responses – as of April 11, over 69,000 Facebook users have responded to the poll, and the video itself has been viewed over 167,000 times. The poll started on April 2.

Proton’s vice president of sales and marketing, Abdul Rashid Musa said “the new SUV is a significant milestone for Proton and therefore we wanted to share it with our fellow Malaysians as it also represents a symbol of national achievement. We did not expect such a big number of responses in such a short time and feel humbled by the interest shown in the first premium C-segment SUV produced by a Malaysian automotive brand.”

Those who took the poll will stand to win a share of RM100,000 worth of gift vouchers. Five winners will be chosen based on the best reasons given for the name, and each will win exclusive VIP invites to the launch of the vehicle, as well as the honour of being among the first people to test drive and experience the SUV at Proton’s test track in Shah Alam.

Proton’s SUV rendered based on Geely Boyue

There is also the option of proposing an alternative name for the SUV. When chosen, one lucky winner will be rewarded with a 4D/3N tour package to Hangzhou and Shanghai for two, and this is inclusive of a visit to the Geely’s HQ.

“As the official launch date of the SUV approaches, Proton will embark on more activities to build product awareness and excitement among Malaysians. As we have shared in the teaser, the SUV will be the first product jointly developed with our partner Geely, [and it] will be the starting point of a new model range for the company, so we want as many people as possible to get up close and take a look at the future of Proton,” Rashid added.

The closing date for submission is April 30, 2018 at 11.59pm. Winners will be announced closer to the launch date of the SUV, set to be in Q4 of 2018.

I remember when Protong embark on game changer “IRIZ”,there were thousands and thousands of entries. There was a hardcore fan as winner. No issue. The issue after this is,the game changer became a GAME LOSER…AND THE REST IS HISTORY.
P1 is using taxringgit RM100,000 from the last bailout from gomen to give away for a fanciful name.Remember,Geely is injecting only peanuts rm170 juta to so cslled call the shots at P1,…we taxpayers are the ones financing a white elephant ,according to menteri Nazri for the last 2 decades when it started to bleed.
It is like a bankrupt credit card holder, given some hard saving cash, only to splash it on fanciful items again. JUst ,pathetic,Protong….u never learn to be humble and will never gain the taxpayers trust anymore.

Game changer Iriz already a big failure. Even PT article also mentioned, sales were very disappointing.

Also, Tun Mahathir, advisor to Proton 2 years ago said, the Iriz was a failure.

And Proton said it was a game changer

Don’t forget Malaysian made Iriz 100x better quality than any china car….so how Boyue gonna be game changer?

There is a tagline here – “Be Part of Proton History”. I believe many have own one P1 here in their live so we are indeed part of P1 history.

Can P1 REWARD us, its customer be it former or current owners by giving a RM10,000 discount if we decided to buy this Boy-U ?! If P1 can make the OFFER, I believe there are many would like to take the offer. I would like to speak for myself here.

The sale to Geely was the last wrong choose of Proton!
If they would choose the PSA Group, they would like the Dacia brand of the group, with re-enter to Europe and other countries.
But with the sale to Geely, it goes down-under to a sub-brand with only production a handful re-designed geely models for the malaysian market. And this only to say; we dont kill proton, still on living.
What a interesting forward going, crazy!

PS: -Note it, call me in 10 years about it!-

This old maid was in no position to choose suitors. Many an European suitors came asking but after due diligence decided to quietly run away. This old maid had so many incurable bad habits, an interfering parents & grandparents and is living in illusions of past grandeur.

Mat Salleh came, saw, heard & quickly run away. Of course got reason one.

Lucky got this rich Chinese Uncle who is willing to marry her. If she is wise, she will change her ways for the better & make her husband proud.

i think the biggest difference with geely and proton, is that geely looks more than ready to share everything with proton unlike previous partners mitsubishi. and please dont count the “one-off” deals with citroen, suzuki, honda..etc. those are not technology deals.. just proton buying a platform/engine.. and reselling it badged as a proton. geely owns practically half of proton.. it would be silly to think they are doing this to make proton fail. a healthy proton is good business for geely.

    • This could be the only car that would be co-developed with Geely. Probably to test the market acceptance.

Hope that the sales figure and piblic acceptance it great, Proton can use the significant amout of investment given by Geely to continue developing more great cars in-house.

Kalau gomen punya duit xdpt nk selamatkan Proton (gov bailouts and more), tentunya duit dari company yg business minded bole bawak Proton ke jalan yg sepatutnya. Bebas dari kekangan kerajaan Malaysia.

You cakap pasal Perodua atau Proton? Iriz dengan Persona dia copy cat dari siapa? Perodua ada tak kereta yang dorang design dan develop sendiri?

But Perodua have been very successful as a partner to Daihatsu so maybe Proton can replicate the success with Geely.

Bukan tak reti, tapi dah try 33 tahun & tak berjaya. Nak teruskan jadi jaguh M’sia pun tak jadi. Eksport pun dah kering.

Dunia dah berubah, tapi kami masih stuck in past glory dan degil tak nak tukar. Biar kita pandang ke masa hadapan & berjayakan industri otomotif Proton.
