May 2018 week three fuel prices – no change, says PM

New prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has just finished a press conference where he was asked if there will be any changes in fuel prices for the upcoming week, as today is the first Wednesday since Pakatan Harapan won in the general elections. The answer is no.

“No increase or decrease, if the global oil prices go up, the government will subsidise,” Mahathir said, without elaborating if the weekly price mechanism that has been in place since March 2017 will be scrapped, as most expect it to be.

This means that pump prices, which have been unchanged for seven straight weeks prior to this, will be maintained till further notice.

As a recap, RON 95 petrol is currently priced at RM2.20 per litre and RON 97 at RM2.47 per litre. Euro 2M diesel is RM2.18 per litre while Euro 5 diesel goes for RM2.28 per litre. These prices will not change come midnight. The last time there was a change in fuel prices was during the fourth week of March, which saw a 10 sen increase across all fuel types and grades.

Pakatan can afford to give us cheap petrol and no GST because they don’t have massive philandering going on.

Also, they don’t have to pay so much of money to cybertroopers to say good things and cover corruption and stealing up. This money can be channeled back to the rakyat.

I am proud Pakatan has taken over. We look forward to cheaper goods and a cleaner Government

  • If the fuel price isn’t changing that’s fine, however the price needs to drop at least below RM2 for the time being until the country’s economy issues are sorted out.
RM2.20 per liter is really expensive to get a full tank. That said, if BN was still in office it would slowly creep up to RM3 by the end of this year without question.

None of the comments here riled me up other than this one! Go work harder if u can’t afford to pay for ur car’s fuel. Removing GST has already hurt the gov’s revenue, so where do u expect the gov to get funds to further subsidise the fuel price to <RM2??! How do u direct the economy to recover if u keep expecting crutches from the gov?? The gov has a humongous job of cleaning up after the sh*t left behind by the FU BeEnd gov due to 1MDB & wastages!! GET REAL!!

Typical daily expenditure of a “low price fuel” user

    Morning – Coffee Bean – RM20
    Mid-break – Kopi O + snacks – RM10
    Lunch – RM20
Afternoon Break – Coffee Bean RM20
    Dinner – RM30
During the day, smokes 2 pack of 20s – RM50.

Total expenses – rm150 excluding suppler.

Low fuel prices helps in a way….

  • I don’t understand the point of fuel subsidies. Atleast for most middle and upper class Malaysian. The poor I can understand, but people with gas guzzling car are generally the well of. Billions of Ringgit is wasted on people that can already afford the fuel but just complain about few extra ringgit. This money could be channeled so many other useful institutes. Mahathir is a great man no doubt but this is not a smart move for the country in general. (Probably a smart move politically for all the small minded people)

1 out of 100 people actually understand this. Why are people driving Merc and BMW allowed to pump subsidised fuel?

brand new bmw and merc nowadays are actually very fuel saving. with their 8 speed gearbox and direct injection, easily can get 10km per liter in congested city driving , which is comparable to proton. and hybrid vehicles get even better fuel mileage.

Guys, when crude oil price was around USD100, fuel price in malaysia was well below rm 2.00 which sold around rm1.50 years prior to najib’s end of subsidising. Now today 17 May 2018, the world oil price is around USD70.
