GST zero-rated: Isuzu vehicle prices up to RM10k less

With the goods and services tax rate set to be revised to 0% from 6% on June 1, Isuzu Malaysia has released a revised price list of its models. These new prices will come into effect on the aforementioned date until the implementation of the sales and services tax (SST).

“There is no better time to own a brand new Isuzu model. We hope that with these new prices and tax structure, our customers will take the opportunity to upgrade while new customers will be attracted to become an Isuzu owner,” said Masayuki Suzuki, Isuzu Malaysia’s chief operating officer for light commercial vehicle.

Without GST, the D-Max range now starts at RM80,889.20 on-the-road without insurance for the Single Cab 2.5L 4×4 MT variant. Meanwhile, the Double Cab variants will be priced from RM81,189.20 (Double Cab 2.5L 4×2 MT Hi-ride) to RM123,088.40 for the range-topping Double Cab Z-Prestige 3.0L 4×4 AT.

As for the MU-X, both 2.5L automatic variants will be available at cheaper prices. The two-wheel drive MU-X goes for RM166,709.20, or RM9,931.20 less than the GST-inclusive price. Meanwhile, the four-wheel drive version will retail at RM172,709.20, or RM10,291.20 cheaper.

There may be slight variations in the percentage of reduction, which is typically slightly less than 6% flat. This is because 6% GST is only applied on the selling price of a car (and in the case of CBU models, a Puspakom inspection fee), before GST-free registration essentials such as road tax, registration fee and ownership endorsement fee are added on.

I thought GST is multi-stages tax. People said we actually paid more tha 6% when we purchase anything. Some said we actually paid up to 40% of gst. That’s why I voted for PH. But now GST is zero-rated, why there is only around 6% reduced???
