FIRST LOOK: 2018 F56 MINI Cooper S 3 Door facelift

The F56 MINI Hatch was given a mid-life update early this year, featuring very subtle updates to the 3 Door, 5 Door and Convertible range. That includes a brand new two-dimensional logo, revised LED daytime running lights, unique Union Jack LED tail lights, 3D-printed fender trims and striking new paint colours.

The automaker must have sworn by the ‘if it ain’t broke’ mantra when redesigning the cabin, because apart from a few nifty updates, the interior remains by and large the same as before. Notable additions include newly-designed seat patterns, an upgraded 6.5-inch head unit, repositioned drive mode selector switch as well as the new electronic gear shifter that governs the new seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Mechanically, the B48 2.0 litre four-cylinder petrol with MINI TwinPower turbo continues propulsion duties in the Cooper S. Output is unchanged – it makes 192 hp and 280 Nm, with power channeled exclusively to the front wheels. The motor gets updated with new high-pressure injectors, intake air ducts, oil supply, as well as cooling and exhaust systems. Efficiency is said to increase by seven percent as well.

Watch the walk-around video to find out just what MINI has done with this mid-life update. MINI Malaysia has already dropped a teaser video and launched a microsite, which means the F56 facelift should be making its Malaysian debut soon. Enjoy the video, and as usual, leave your thoughts below.
