VIDEO: Porsche 919 Hybrid on the streets of Bangkok

To call something surreal is to say that the elements in it are combined in a strange way that you would not normally expect, as though it was a dream. That is the perfect way to describe the latest film released by Porsche as part of the 919 Hybrid Tribute Tour.

After visiting China and Japan, Thailand was the third stop in Asia for the highly successful LMP1 racer, which secured 20 pole positions, 17 race victories, six World Championship titles and three overall Le Mans victories in the World Endurance Championships (WEC). Those Le Mans wins were consecutive by the way – 2015, 2016 and 2017.

With Porsche formally exiting the WEC LMP1 class, the Tribute Tour serves as a means for the legend to say “thank you” to all its fans, with 13 stops around the globe.

In the case of Thailand, the chosen site was the city of Bangkok, whereby the 919 Hybrid made its presence felt at various landmarks including the crowded streets of the city’s vibrant Chinatown as well as the wondrous Rama VIII Bridge that spans across the Chao Phraya River. All this took place in the hours between dusk and dawn, a critical time during a Le Mans race.

It isn’t every day that you see a 919 Hybrid on public roads, and the scenes in the video are certainly quite surreal to watch. We reckon the ‘making of’ this film will be equally interesting to watch. For now, enjoy.
