The new Volvo S60 has been confirmed for the Malaysian market and the target launch period by Volvo Car Malaysia (VCM) is the third quarter of 2019. The third-generation midsize sedan by the Swedish brand was unveiled in June – it’s the first Volvo to be made in the United States and global distribution will begin in the spring of next year, which is Q2 2019.
Malaysia is Volvo’s regional assembly hub, and the S60 will eventually roll off the plant in Shah Alam for domestic consumption and exports to Thailand, but early batches could be CBU imports, which is the typical style for VCM.
The recently-concluded international press drive event had two variants of the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class-rivalling sedan on the platter – the S60 T8 Twin Engine Polestar Engineered and the S60 T6 AWD R-Design that you see here.
It’s early days and local variants have yet to be confirmed, but we’re not expecting the Polestar-tweaked car – stuffed to the gills with branded kit such as Ohlins adjustable suspension and Brembo six-pot brakes – to reach Malaysia as it will be prohibitively expensive. The 405 hp/670 Nm plug-in hybrid is also produced in limited numbers.
The T6 AWD is more likely. The highest non-PHEV variant is powered by a 2.0 litre four-cylinder Drive-E engine, which is under the hood of all S60s. In this guise, it gets a turbocharger and a supercharger to make 310 hp and 400 Nm of torque. The twincharged engined is mated to an Aisin-made eight-speed conventional automatic transmission.
When local assembly starts, we’re expecting a CKD T5 with 254 hp/350 Nm (FWD, just turbo) and (non-Polestar) Twin Engine plug-in hybrid variants – the latter will of course be dependent on CKD PHEV incentives by the government.
As usual, base Momentum, luxury Inscription and sporty R-Design trim levels will be available globally, but expect VCM to champion the latter for its most sporting model. That’s part of a wider trend in the premium segment – see the popularity of M Sport and AMG Line in otherwise far from sporting variants.
Looks good, doesn’t it? We’ll tell you more about the third-generation S60 soon, but for now, check out the striking new premium compact entry here.

Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
so long hv to wait…..close to facelift time d by then….
faster rebadge as new Perdana
I pity the many people who like to write….VolvoCar, Geely, P1, Mesidis, VolvoTrucks, Lotus > all
Many sad P1 fanboys now saying their Proton cars got Volvo technology and Mercedes AMG technology.
Some even more sad say why buy X5 BMW when you can buy X70 Proton.
Well well. If PRoton was so great and if Proton really used Mercedes technology and Volvo technology, people won’t waste RM400k to buy a Benz or a Volvo.
What those sales men are saying Volvo > all on no RV lah bang
Volvo Lotus Geely > All
u forgot proton….volvo lotus geely proton
Lucky Geely saved our Malaysian Proton. If not for Geely, Proton would have gone bankerap by now and we rakyat will be susah
Thank you China and thank you Geely for always helping Malaysia
This Adam is actually hating Proton. This Adam is actually coming from either Perodua Salesmen. As well as for those who said BMW service is teruk, actually also coming from Arrogant P2 Salesmen as they are talking fake comment. This BMW Service known as AutoBavaria Service is good. This is the real comment. Just pls pls look at Perodua Service first. Actually, Perodua Service Quality is very terrible. Also Perodua Salesmen always come here talk bad things about Volvo including Toyota, Proton and even other carmakers too. Moreover, Perodua Alza new facelift still give ONLY 2 AIRBAGS without any other safety features including Bezza and Axia. People will not buy Perodua with unsafe cars
q3 2019 is too long…the bmw g20 might arrive earlier
Gud things comes to those who wait. S60 is worth it.
How many Malaysians can afford to buy a RM300k car? Oh wai!
When Mesidis, BMW, & VolvoCars r doing record breaking sales? Plenty.
Even if this S60 sells at RM150k, you also see handful on the road. Come now come later no different
If it sells for 300k VCM will be shooting themselves on the foot. As much as I like Volvo I know they aren’t doing as well as they wanted to here. How many S90 and XC60 do you see on the road here?
But the even more exp XC90 is quite frequently seen, even sometimes more than GLE.
GLE and X5 are totally different class bang.
Volvo fast track Third national car …
Not might it will have arrived by then in CKD form lol.
(Like) Volvo S60.
(Dislike) Merc C200 FL, BMW 3Series G20
(Like) Volvo S60, BMW 3 Series G20
(Dislike) Merc C200 FL
And one more thing who said BMW service is lousy. It is fake comment. Those who said BMW service is very bad must be from Perodua Salesman right
Obviously you dont own BMW.
Crazy. Still got people compare S60 with both Germans. Volvo is much lower class
pls do some research first before make any silly comments. What you want is just the logo, not the car. Even merc n bmw give u garbage truck, you will still say they are better than others.
surely cheaper then XC40.
volvo needs to update the infotainment system by providing physical controls for climate system and , include d usual android auto carplay system
MBUX/GKUI/VolvoUI incoming soon.
VolvoCar, Geely, P1, Mesidis, VolvoTrucks, Lotus > all
Too late
Wow….only one issue. Why every single Volvo launch here takes forever?
No need to waste time launching this here ….This is Bolehland, land of Myvi aka Ferrari
looks very american-ish
S60 T8 seems delicious.
