New Toyota Vios teased, hinting at Malaysian introduction soon – bookings open on November 22

UMW Toyota has begun teasing the new Toyota Vios, and all that has been offered is a Facebook posting stating that the order books for the car will open on November 22. Given that this is a day before the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (KLIMS) kicks off, it’s looking quite likely that the car will break cover at the show.

The new Vios is essentially the Yaris Ativ, the sedan version of the Yaris hatchback that’s sold in Thailand, but equipped with a larger displacement engine. In its Vios guise, the car has already made its market debut in Singapore and Indonesia, so its arrival here is well due.

While the Yaris Ativ has a 1.2 litre engine to comply with Thailand’s Eco Car rules, the Malaysian Vios will – like the Singapore and Indonesian versions – feature the familar 2NR-FE 1.5 litre Dual VVT-i mill that was introduced on the Vios in 2016, with the mill paired with a CVT with seven virtual ratios. There should likely be no revision to the output, which is 105 hp (or 107 PS) at 6,000 rpm and 140 Nm at 4,200 rpm.

Singapore-spec new Toyota Vios

No surprise as to the variants – ads on oto.my have popped up and reveal regular E and higher-spec G trims, with a suggestion of pricing being in the RM85k and RM91k region respectively. Official specifications haven’t been revealed, but the car seems quite well kitted out, based on that listed in the ads.

Supposedly, equipment on the E – which rides on 15-inch wheels – will include LED daytime running lights, auto air-conditioning, parking sensors and a 6.8-inch DVD-AVX infotainment system. There’s also mention of a blind spot monitor with rear cross traffic alert. Safety-wise, the Vios will come with seven airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and hill-start assist fitted as standard.

The Vios G adds LED tail lights, 16-inch two-tone alloy wheels, paddle shifters and an electrochromatic rear-view mirror, among other things. Also expected is a 4.2-inch multi-info display and an Optitron instrument cluster as well as a six-speaker audio system. We’ll have more info on the car when the time comes, and that should be pretty soon.

Somehow the Vios design does not stand out when compared to the Camry and Corolla design but it will continue to sell well here regardless especially with the upgrade kit list. Honda’s greatest rival is about to make a comeback in Malaysia after being trashed in sales for a few years now.

Wow, as usual this will be a big hit. Everybody knows, Toyota is expensive but after using for 3 years, you still can sell your Vios for over RM50k despite buying it for RM75k for example.

So the new generation, mati mati also will buy Vios. They know good RV will matter when you are selling your car. The bank won’t ask you to top up your loan despite you paying every month for 36 months (3 years)

2019 Toyota Vios Price Rm75k (for example)
    2019 Proton Preve Pice RM75k

3 years later you want to sell….

In 2022 your same Toyota Vios Price RM50k
In 2022 your same Proton Preve Rm26k

Then, like every Proton customer you ask yourself, “what have I been paying the past 36 months for? What for the bank ask me to top up Rm8k to my loan now?

guna u punya harga anggaran, 3 tahun kemudian:-
2022 Toyota Vios harga dpt RM 41,100
2022 Proton Preve harga dpt RM 37,875

wow too much different tu, after 3 years vios & preve price not so much different la. it’s not just about rv. it’s about people’s preferences. at the same price, better get b or c segment car, fuel saving, maintenance, etc. and at the same price too, you can get high specs preve rather than low specs vios. ya, rv not so much different, maybe that’s the reason why people still choosing toyota vios. despite of whatever rv is, if you go to buy 2nd hand car and find out vios is 50k and preve just 20k, i have no idea why you should waste money 30k over 2nd hand car.

Those who cant afford also, don’t worry. Just buy a Perodua Myvi. It uses a Toyota engine also, very similar to the Vios engine

This is why Myvi sales in 6 months are 80,000 units vs Proton Iriz sales in 6 months only 2000 units.

80,000 VS 2000 units. Speaks volumes. People trust in Toyota engines.

Where’s the edge that you would fall off, how come water doesn’t overflow down, why you can travel the earth in any direction and reach the same exact spot? All these wouldn’t be happening with flat earth. And why blame NASA? It has been know way before NASA. Go up Mt Kinabalu, explain why the horizon is curvy.

    Toyota sold in 150 countries

Geely 98% sold in China only. Rejected completely by First World countries.

Which should I buy? Should I buy a brand that is accepted in 150 countries and is the Top seller in all First World countries

    Or

Should I buy a car brand that is 98% sold in China only?

Do you know why Geely is mainly sold in China alone? In fact, do you know of any other Chinese carmaker sold in large numbers elsewhere other than their homeland?

Because with a TIV of 24 million, all you need to survive is 5% market share, or even less. That’s why. Difference is that now, they have started to look abroad a bit more.

Yes they are mainly available in China, but they are also available in MENA, some Russian cities and Balkan countries.

In time, that will change. Just like how Malaysians shunned Japanese cars in the beginning, it was the same with Chery and Haval. But in time, in Malaysia Haval and Geely will survive.

Finally UMW Toyota already taubat and insaf with their arrogant and greedy with the spec of their car lineup. IMO this vios already well equipped with those BSW and RCTA which not available in other country and competitors. And Thank God they will not create TRD Sportipu variant anymore.
